Near Union Square Jan 02, 2008
Hotel Nikko San Francisco, owned by Japan Airlines, is located a few blocks from Union Square in downtown San Francisco. We stayed here for two nights during our trip in January '08. Our room was on the 21st floor (Nikko Floor, they call), and from the large window, we could have a view of downtown SF, with a glimpse of the top of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Coit Tower. The room was clean and spacious for three of us, and the staff was friendly and pleasant.
The room charge for the Nikko Floor includes complementary breakfast buffet at Anzu Restaurant on the 2nd floor. The buffet has Japanese breakfast along with the western style food (eggs, sausages, pancakes, and such), so you can have things like grilled salmon and "Natto" (fermented soy beans) with rice and miso soup. Note: Valet Parking is over $50 per day (24hrs)!!! Seems like it went up quite a bit since the last we were there. Across the street, there is another garage which costs you $30, so we went there to park our car instead. Part of the The Bridge and the Snow: JAN '08 travel blog

Reasonably priced downtown hotel near everything Mar 23, 2008
This place is central to most of the cool things downtown like Halidie Plaza and really close to Union Square. Lots of tourists around there but you are close to a bunch of public transportation so you can escape to various parts of the city. You will see lots of japanese people here, and there is an asian theme. They charge $10 for the use of the pool and jacuzzi, but just don't say anything and try to use your keycard to get in, if they don't notice then you won't get charged, and if they notice play dumb. Also don't take anything out of the mini-fridge as there are sensors and they will be automatically charged to you! Otherwise this place is great, nice staff and amenities, bathroom is cool, all glass shower will make for some nice romantic stays. I recommend it but be sure to get a deal like we did, about $180/night.
