Old and disappointing Aug 08, 2015
After staying at Hotel Okura in Tokyo, I was expecting similar levels of service and quality at Hotel Nikko, which is also a part of the One Harmony network.

We originally booked the hotel via HotelTonight. The rate was around $300/night, after all taxes and fees, which was steep but still not as expensive as most other centrally located hotels in SF during the summertime.

After checking into our tiny, dark and depressing room on the 7th floor, we decided to return to the front desk and take up their offer of an $80/night upgrade. The upgrade included breakfast for two daily at Anzu (a nice restaurant in the lobby), premium high speed internet access, and a larger room on the 21st floor, which seemed worth the cost.

Unfortunately, neither the room nor the restaurant met our expectations. The service at the restaurant was mixed. The hostess and my waiter were great, but the waiter my wife got was rude. I had eaten breakfast earlier in the day separately, and when she came down to get breakfast by herself later, he gave her attitude and said that someone had already eaten breakfast for our room (despite the fact that our rate covered breakfast for two people and I had explicitly told the restaurant that my wife would be arriving separately later in the morning).

The first “upgraded” room we were put in was only slightly larger, but the bathroom was much older. Whereas our first room had a modern bathroom with glass bathroom and shower doors, the new bathroom had an old beat up door and shower curtains. When paying $400 for a hotel room in a “luxury” hotel I don’t’ think it’s unreasonable to expect a real shower.

The next night we were transferred to another room on the same floor that was slightly bigger and had a more modern bathroom. We thought we were all clear, but then were repeatedly awoken in the middle of the night by an extremely loud clicking sound lasted for 2-3 minutes every time the heater cycled on and off.

We complained again, and they offered to send someone up to look at the heater, but we only had one night left and decided to sleep with earplugs on rather than move all our stuff again. They ended up waiving the $80/night “upgrade” fee, which was a nice gesture, but I definitely would not stay at this hotel again. Next time, I’d rather pay a little bit more for another hotel with a better room and better service.

For that price one would expect superb service and hospitality. At least they waived the $80 upgrade fee. Small consolation I suppose for the overall experience though and disappointing service.

A great hotel in the financial district of San Francisco, close to Union Square Apr 01, 2011
I stayed at Hotel Niko when I was in San Francisco for a TMS Conference. The conference was at the convention center and this hotel was a few blocks away. I used to walk to the conference daily.

Furthermore, it's close to all the shopping of San Francisco. Hyde Park cable car is a couple blocks away. The big mall is walking distance.

The hotel itself was very nice. Our room was in the upper levels of the hotel and we got a nice view of downtown San Francisco. We had 2 double beds (4 per room) and it worked out brilliant. The rooms had LCD TVs and the pillows were soft and plush. The bed was very comfortable as well. The bathroom was quite nice. Could have spent some time there taking relaxing showers.

But the best part of this hotel is LOCATION, LOCATION, & LOCATION.

Well worth the money and usually cheaper than other hot name properties in San Francisco...

Near Union Square Jan 02, 2008
Hotel Nikko San Francisco, owned by Japan Airlines, is located a few blocks from Union Square in downtown San Francisco. We stayed here for two nights during our trip in January '08. Our room was on the 21st floor (Nikko Floor, they call), and from the large window, we could have a view of downtown SF, with a glimpse of the top of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Coit Tower. The room was clean and spacious for three of us, and the staff was friendly and pleasant.

The room charge for the Nikko Floor includes complementary breakfast buffet at Anzu Restaurant on the 2nd floor. The buffet has Japanese breakfast along with the western style food (eggs, sausages, pancakes, and such), so you can have things like grilled salmon and "Natto" (fermented soy beans) with rice and miso soup.

Note: Valet Parking is over $50 per day (24hrs)!!! Seems like it went up quite a bit since the last we were there. Across the street, there is another garage which costs you $30, so we went there to park our car instead.

Reasonably priced downtown hotel near everything Mar 23, 2008
This place is central to most of the cool things downtown like Halidie Plaza and really close to Union Square. Lots of tourists around there but you are close to a bunch of public transportation so you can escape to various parts of the city. You will see lots of japanese people here, and there is an asian theme. They charge $10 for the use of the pool and jacuzzi, but just don't say anything and try to use your keycard to get in, if they don't notice then you won't get charged, and if they notice play dumb. Also don't take anything out of the mini-fridge as there are sensors and they will be automatically charged to you! Otherwise this place is great, nice staff and amenities, bathroom is cool, all glass shower will make for some nice romantic stays. I recommend it but be sure to get a deal like we did, about $180/night.
