Hotel Nikko Hongkong Hong Kong Reviews
Our haven in Hong Kong! Aug 27, 2010
Every time we book a hotel I must admit we are a little worried about how close the pictures on their websites are to reality. Nikko Hotel in Kowloon, Hong Kong was everything that they promised and more.
On our arrival at 1am our first impression was the abundance of staff at the drop off area and in the beautiful and spacious lobby, who were all quick to help with our bags and cheerfully check us in.
Our room was lovely and quite spacious, with everything in great condition. Being travel friends of the opposite sex we often find it a bit of a task to get two queen beds instead of one for some reason but we had no issues at all with that for once. We were thrilled to see two large queen beds! The bathroom was surprisingly large with a massive bath and separate shower, everything in marble. Air conditioning is a very important part of holidaying in Hong Kong in Summer and the room temperature was always perfectly cool.
We had a few different experiences with food and drinks in the hotel -
1. Sky Lounge - Amazing view of Victoria Harbour, especially at night and great cocktails! Happy Hour is 2 for one drinks and is definitely worth taking advantage of. They have the normal cocktails on their normal drinks menu but on the table they had special cocktails that changed for different days and they were very yummy. One night they were all asian themed and included lychee wine in them. You also sit at your table and the friendly staff gives you a buzzer to buzz them when u want anything. Fantastic.
2. Breakfast Buffet - We avoided this until the end of our trip almost because we thought it was a bit expensive but we found out it is a massive buffet. All different types of breakfast foods from different regions that really should please anyone.
3. The Lobby Lounge - We had a fair few cocktails here too but they don't do happy hour. We had an English High Tea one afternoon there too which was very nice. Just before our shuttle back to the hotel we had a snack from the Ramen noodle section and that was very nice too.
4. Room service - We did this once and wouldn't do it again. As to be expected it was quite pricey but the single serving was tiny. The man who brought it into our room was extremely pleasant though.
We were very happy with the general location we chose because it was just a short walk from crazy busy areas, but it was a bit of a relief to come back to Nikko Hotel where it was more peaceful and not so crowded.
One of the best things about Nikko Hotel is the staff who are eternally helpful and friendly. Our favourite was Stanley, one of the front doorman. He was so genuinely happy and helpful everyday that we couldn't help but leave the hotel with a smile. Would definitely recommend Nikko Hotel to anyone!
