Hotel National Bern Reviews

Jul 14, 2007
This is probably one of the best hotels I've stayed in (well, on my own dime)! Yes, it's in Lonely Planet, but it's really great. It's not too far from the train station -- totally walkable with my enormous rollybag. They have an elevator, which is great. the only problem is that it only goes up to the fourth floor -- and there is a fifth floor. So if you know you're going to need the elevator for your stuff, let them know in advance. The hotel staff is really great about replying to questions via email pretty quickly, too. Breakfast is included with the room, which has cereals, bread, cheese, meat, and drinks. The hotel also gives you a ticket for a free drink and 10% food at the bar attached to the hotel -- and who doesn't want a free drink? The rooms are bright and clean, although there was no place to put any clothing away -- just a coat rack with some hangers. (then again, how many people actually use hotel dressers, especially if they are just staying for one night?) Mine had a sink in it, and the bathroom was down the hall. There is a computer with free internet in the hotel, and you can also pay just a few CHF for two hours of wireless on your own computer (although I had some difficulties getting my credit card to go through). The hotel is just southwest of the main train station, rather than east where everything else in the city is, so it's really quiet at night. But it's still on a main street so it's not scary or too far away to get to.
