Hotel Mountain Paradise La Fortuna Reviews
Affordable luxury with volcano view Jun 22, 2010
Hotel Paradise could be the nicest hotel my wife and I have ever stayed in, however be ready for the extra prices for activities which are high for convenience, but some can be done on your own for much cheaper. Also the road seems rough but its Costa Rica, you'll get that.
When given a tour of our “Premium Suite” we were amazed. We had a King size bed, Plasma TV, remote control lights, AC, Docking station for the i-pod, wireless internet, full size bed, lanai with hot tub, rocking chairs, fresh fruit, towels folded as swans, and in the bathroom a regular shower plus WATERFALL SHOWER, Sweet! (Waterfall showers are great for doing laundry) Outside the porch/lanai we had a view of Arenal Volcano and bushes blocking the view to other rooms so we felt very private.
However over the next few days we will find some negatives, like the food is hit or miss. Dinner was expensive and is your only option without going to town and the last free shuttle returns around 5:00. Breakfast was average but make sure there is no food on the ground near your table as it will attract ants and your feet will be bitten if wearing sandals.
Activities out of the hotel were expensive. For example, you can pay $45 per person and they will take you out to La Fortuna waterfall with a guide, hike down and swim in the falls and return. For a couple we would be paying $90 for a couple hours. We took their free shuttle into town, paid a taxi $6 to get to the falls, paid admission and did all the same stuff without a guide but at our own price and spent $30 total after admission. However some of the activities may be worth it. We got a hike near Arenal volcano with a private guide (no one else signed up to go) and a few hours at Baldi Hot Springs. All admission and food was included. The tour guide was phenomenal (Noah) but he can also be hired out individually without the hotel so there may still be a more cost effective way to go. With each activity we did do we would lose about 15-20 minutes waiting for our van which isn't a big deal except for the amount of money paid for the activity, it begins to feel overpriced.
Over all it was a great stop as one of the nices hotels we've ever stayed in paying a little over $100 a night. Well worth it.

Affordable resort with great volcano views May 07, 2010
Mountain Paradise Hotel was a great resort style hotel to stay at while visiting La Fortuna. Our room was very spacious and had a cabin feel to it. The room's amenities were fantastic, IPod docking stations, flat screen TV, a walkout patio with a jacuzzi. The bathroom was extremely spacious with a standard shower but also a second waterfall style shower. The hotel grounds were beautiful with lots of tropical foliage and great views of the volcano(depending on the clouds). Many hours were spent at the swimming pool complete with a swim up bar. The restaurant was very delicious with a very friendly staff and booking day excursions was extremely simple. The hotel staff were great and even hung out with us on our patio drinking beers! The only downside was the location. The hotel was located at the end of a long dirt road and it was no easy task to explore the town. Also as 3 single people, it was not a great place to mingle and socialize as the place was almost exclusively couples. All in all, this was a great place to return to after taking part in the many outdoor activities the area has to offer.

While searching the internet one day, I found some very cheap airfare to Costa Rica. $240 round trip on Mexicana seemed too good of a bargain to pass up so I snagged up those tickets right away. Sinc…La Fortuna in the early evening. Our hotel, the Mountain Paradise Resort, was off an unpaved dirt road up in the hills…
