A palace on an oasis Jul 28, 2009
A beautiful hotel, beautifully situated. Built more like a Moorish palace than like a hotel and placed right next to the oasis, the hotel breaths an atmosphere of luxury. My room was very nice and comfortable - with a sitting room and a bedroom (with a very comfortable bed), but I heard the sizes of the rooms range from very small to very large. The restaurant is good, with very good food and an enjoyably interior.

But the surroundings really make this hotel worth the while. Just take two steps out of the door, and you're on banks the oasis, where can go rowing or sandboarding or just have a nice little stroll across the many terraces and craft shops. Or you walk just one minute further, and you're in the desert, climbing the sand dunes that enclose the little town on three sides.

a spartan oasis Sep 20, 2009
Hotel Mossone is an old colonial mansion, over 100 years old, turned hotel. The location is splendid right at shores of the lagoon of Huacachina, surrounded by sand dunes, but the hotel itself could definitely do with a lick of paint and some basic maintencance.

The rooms are grouped around a charming but sadly unkept courtyard, in which the roaming resident turtle is a real attraction.

The rooms are dark and gloomy with very limited (just a bed, a chair and a desk)worn out furniture, a noisy fridge, AC and even a safe. The light in the room comes from a TL lamp, which creates an eerie and unfriendly atmosphere.

Though despite the gloomy appearance, the room was spick and span and I didn't find a single bug - even though there were huge cracks underneath the door and between the window shutters.

The bathroom had an outdated and shabby look, but was nevertheless clean.

I staid at the hotel as part of a group and there appeared to be large big between the rooms in size and comfort. Apparently some rooms are renovated already and have a more welcoming appearance.

Breakfast was average with toast, eggs, freshly squeezed juices, cereal etc...
