Hotel Meera Pokhara Reviews
Basic room with a view! Jul 25, 2010
The Meera hotel in Pokhara consist of 2 buildings. The main building, with the restaurant, is located at Lakeside's busy main road. The 2nd building is around the corner in a more quiet side street. I staid 2 nights at the latter one.
The location is excellent in the heart of Lake Side. Restaurants, shops, travel agencies... all are only a few steps away. Because we slept in the 2nd building it was relatively calm at night.
Building nr 2 consist of 4 floors and a small rooftop terrace with amazing views over lake Pehwa and the Anapurna Range.
Our room was basic and a bit worn with a queen size and a single bed, a small tv set and 2 bamboo chairs by the bay window. The full carpet as well as the bed covers had seen better times and were heavily stained. The working A/C unit is a nice plus though, given there aren't too many power cuts at night.
The bathroom was spacious and well equipped with a sink, toilet and a bathtub/shower. Great to have warm running water at all times! Though it was very odd to have a window without cover or curtain right next to the shower!
Both our room and bathroom were rather dirty upon arrival. There were lots of black hairs still stuck to the bath, clipped off nails on the carpet and food covered dishes were put on the floor of the corridor. At reception they told us this was because we checked in early (around 1PM) and so there was not much time for cleaning. We gave it the benefit of the doubt but even the next day it wasn't much different. The bathroom had large cobwebs on the ceiling which must have been there much longer than just a few days.
Also the 2nd building had its own small reception desk and the friendly receptionist helped us quickly and efficiently with arranging taxis to bring us to the beginning of our trek, about 30 minutes' drive out of Lakeside. We got the taxi's for a very reasonable price, so no rip off at all here!
Breakfast was served at the restaurant of the main building. There was plenty of space to sit both inside and outside and the food was served as a small buffet. Eggs are cooked to your liking and coffee and tea are served to the table. The service was very slow, but that is nothing unusual really.
I'd sum it up as an ok place to spend a few days. Nothing fancy but with all necessary comfort (hot water and AC)to make your stay enjoyable
