Hotel Lido Estoril Reviews
Jul 22, 2007
If you are ever travelling to Estoril, Portugal, and wish to spend your nights in comfortable rooms at agreeable prices, then Hotel Estoril is an excellent choice. However, should you also wish to eat in said hotel, I suggest you bring your own food rather than brave what they serve here.
The food is abysmally poor. Tasteless, non-descript and bland are the most fitting adjectives - on a good day. However, if you dine in their alleged four-star restaurant, you might also be served food which is near inedible. Brown cauliflower, though a rare sight it might be, is hardly tempting. When served with fish and potatoes which taste as though they have been overboiled in the same pot, it makes the customer wish he/she had foregone dinner altogether. And if you are truly unlucky, you may be served cold pasta with meatballs - cold because it was discarded by another customer after a few mouthfuls, then sent back to you. With hairs in it more frequent than not, I might add.
But, of course, the hotel is not to blame for the disgusting state of the food they serve - they do not make it themselves. The food is cooked (a strong word to use in this case) somewhere else - the staff could not say where - and then reheated in the hotel kitchen. The desserts, though slightly less disgusting than the main courses, were put on the table in the plastic container they had arrived in (the nutritional facts were, of course, in Portugese) and distributed between the guests as best the staff could - there were never enough dessert for everyone. The unfortunate guests for whom there was no "chocolate mousse" (also a strong phrase), received instead a single banana. Need I add that even this was in a sad state of deterioration?
In short, I have never tried eating food as bad as this. It was only out of pity for the staff, who were polite despite their non-existent English, that we tried forcing down what we were served. However, when I received cold food with hairs in it, and which someone else had already tried eating, I left the room in protest. The four stars on their restaurant door cannot be anything but a part of the decorations.
