Only go for the apartments Jun 27, 2009
The first time I rented an apartment out the back and it was very convenient and good value for money. However, the second time I rented a room, and found that quite a different experience. The hotel has no central heating, but instead some weird inverter system which goes off when you leave the room. I cannot see how a hotel without central heating can be given 3 stars. In spite of that I was kept awake by loud mechanical noises on the first night. I asked to leave, but was told I would have to pay for the days I booked. The other room was somewhat better but cold. The attitude of the reception was evidently that they don't care whether you never come back, and I won't be going back either. Bruges is a rip-off in many ways, and a pity that so many second-rate restaurants and hotels give it a bad name.
