Hotel King Rome Jul 31, 2013
Hotel King was strategically located as it is near Trevi Fountain. I admit, aside from the price, the location was a major factor in choosing this hotel. From the bus station, we took a cab to the hotel. We paid about 10 euros for this. I was surprise by the façade. I thought it’s a small hotel.

While we were checking in, I asked the concierge if it is safe to drink the water from the faucet. His answer was laced with sarcasm, saying I have been drinking from it the last 50 years and I am still alive. To which I promptly replied, lucky for you but keep answering like that and you won’t last too long anymore. I know, I basically threatened the guy but no need to be sarcastic to customers like me who are really tired too and just asking.

The hotel was bigger than the hotel from Amsterdam, and even the beds are a little bit wider. Breakfast is included in the price you pay. I enjoyed the breakfast because it has a wider array of offering. Basic yes, but at least, you can choose. There’s bread and cereals; hams, cheese and eggs; several jugs of different flavored juices, coffee and tea. Plus, cakes and fruits.

We have our own toilet and shower, and they change towels every day.

Favorable location Sep 23, 2010
The first time you visit Hotel King, you might find it hard to spot the exact location. That location however is slap bang in the middle of the action. The hotel advertises with "rooms with a view over the spanish steps" and although you cannot see the stairs themselves, you are indeed about a minutes walk away from the spanish steps. The actual street the hotel is situated gets quiet during the evening, so your sleep is not disturbed by drunk passers by and screaming policecars. On the map you might think that metro station Spanga is closer by, but I'd recommend to go to Barberini and make your way from there.

The building itself is quite old already and the upholstery, the bathroom and beds are not much younger. Soundproofing is mediocre at best, but the staff is always willing to knock on the door of people to ask them to be a little bit quieter. The bathrooms are kept resonably clean, but they are a bit small.

The hotel has free wifi and there is TV in the rooms. On top of that all rooms have aircon. They might be a bit noisy though...

The beds are quite comfortable. There is roomservice, but that is just like the breakfast a bit limited. Bear in mind though that Italians normally have breakfast with a cup of coffee and a croissant or cake. Besides, next to the hotel is a lovely restaurant and there are more further down the street, were you can have a decent dinner for two for less than 50 euro's per two people.

The staff is multilingual and willing to help. Sometimes they even smile...

You will have to check their work though: if they do not reservate/call while you're there, you stand the chance that your request are written down only and not executed.

In short Hotel King is an old hotel, that barely deserves its 3 star rating. It's main atraction is it's location: almost everything in Roma is within a 20 minute walk. Use it as a sleepingplace and it will serve you fine for not much money!

Not really fit for a King... Aug 16, 2009
Despite it's close proximity to the Spanish Steps (less than 200 meters away), I found my stay in Hotel King to be simply that...a cost-effective stay (room rates are pegged at 60 Euros a night).

The complementary toiletries and assistance of the multilingual front desk attendant were very much appreciated. However, other amenities such as their cable television (which didn't offer much selection for English speaking patrons), dial-up Internet access (I was not informed that such a service was available), ensuite bathrooms (no locks at the bathroom door and inadequate drainage), safety deposit box (you still have to ask for the key in the front desk), and buffet breakfast (which consisted mainly of cereal, pie, water, and coffee) left much to be desired.

It does. After a couple of days there you can actually walk to the other attractions that Rome has to offer such as the Fontana di Trevi, the Panthéon, and the Colosseum. Of course (depending on the heat), walking back to Hotel King may be a problem but a cab would be very willing to drive you back for a fee of 18 Euros.

Great location on budget price Jun 13, 2008
My daughter and I stayed here when we visited Rome in 2008. The location is excellent, right up the street from Piazza Barberini (walking distance to the metro). The Spanish steps are just down the road about 1/2 km.

The rooms are what you would expect in the centro storico, older building with nicely appointed furniture. A window facing the street with large wooden shutters. Breakfast is included and served in a dinning room. Great coffee and breakfast. The price was very reasonable for this location. The concierge was very helpful in pointing us in the right directions for dinner, sites and other tips.
