Hotel Jamaican Colours Manchioneal Reviews
A really pleasant place Apr 25, 2011
Hotel Jamaican Colours is a really nice hotel run by a French family; Rob and his wife and their sun. The hotel is situated 3 – 5 kilometres from the Long Bay and therefore also closes to site like both the Blue Lagoon and Reach Rivers Fall.
The hotel has nice rooms and bungalows and everything works; the air condition and so on. During the power shortage in the area they also have a generator so they had the possibility to continue the cooking and so on. The day we had been out of power most of the evening in Long Bay and not being able to find a place where we could eat; they were cooking and having fun.
The Hotel is situated on the top of a cliff so you have a fabulous view from up here. They have a nice small pool and otherwise it will only take you 10 minutes and you will be down at one of many neighbouring beaches if you get a lift with a car.
Rob and his family started this place from scratch 8years ago and now they have only to built a couple of bungalows left to construct and then they probably come up with something different.
The place is kept in nice Jamaican colours and with a lot of nice green trees and plants everywhere. The centre piece is the bar which is situated close to the pool as well. Rob and his wife had been travelling the world for ages before they decided to settle down in this corner of Jamaica.
Rob had collected sand from all the beaches where he had been; and today he had 6000 samples in his bar. His son had followed his footsteps and he had 1200. He showed me his favourite examples and I was truly amazed of the magic of the colours that he had collected; there were beaches that looked like the shell from a seagull egg to ones which were blue and totally white. It only confirmed that I have a lost of travelling to do.
The rooms were really fair priced; they were a higher price than what you could get around the area but they were also in a better quality with the remark that all the things worked as well which was not something you saw that often.
Most of the hotels clients were French around 75 percent, but all the staff including the owners speak a spotless English. The place have also good connection with police that comes on patrol once every evening just to hang around and say hi. The police also often have their pool parties at the premises which also indicate that they like the place and care for it.
The cooking is done primarily but Rob’s wife who has been an educated cook in France while Rob likes to take care of the barbeque and especially the jerk chicken and fish. The BBQ is done in the traditional Jamaican style on a barrel grill like you see anywhere else on the island.
