No fault of the hotel, we had someone ring at some ungodly hour, a huge storm that set off all the car alarms in the car park and the air-con leaked so it dripped all night in the corner. David sat up and took photos of the storm… Friday 6th July - Irkutsk- Peschanaya Bay - Listvyanka |

We found a warm hotel (naughty!! but we couldnt find a hostel!!) and had a walk round town. One major thing we noticed was the fur hats seemed to be alot bigger here!!!! Our main reason for stopping here was we wanted to head to Lake Baikal for a few days… Icy Irkutsk |

Hysteria made us both weep and it was just another thing or quirk about hotels in Russia. Got the wake up call a few short hours later. Stumbled down to the lobby at 4am where a bright a chirpy Sergiè was waiting to put my bags on the bus. A new person told us to hurry to the restaurant… Monday 9th July Train to Mongolia |

Bon, faut que je me demerde pour trouver mon hotel. Le taxi que je prends m'emmene evidemment au mauvais endroit, et ca prend 20min de blabla pour essayer de lui faire comprendre que je ne veux pas aller a Baikal Hostel, mais bien Baikaler Hostel. Il m'y emmene finalement et exige… La ruee vers l'est |

We headed for Hotel Uzory on the other side of town and for the first time in Russia, they actually acknowledged our reservations and we were not turned into the cold night.... Progress! Shower, food, beer and a bed made for a peaceful slumber.
