Hotel Inger Sep 07, 2013
We arrived late in the afternoon in Narva city without any hotel reservation and for some reason it was quite difficult to find hotel in this small city, and after direct search on several hotels without success, we borrow the internet connection from the last hotel we been to and check any hotel in the city area.

Once we find it, we head straight to the hotel without book it through the net.

The hotel room advertise on the internet is not too expensive and it is suitable to our budget, however since we did not book it straight away, it appears the price from the internet and walk in customer is different. Unfortunately the reception could not give the special price which display on the internet and she advised us to use the hotel internet (free of charge) to book the room for the special deal. So, we booked it through booking.com on the spot for the price of €45 per night inclusive breakfast for two people while the reception process our passport and assigned a room for us.

The hotel location is pretty good, right in the city centre and within walking distant to all the attractions around the city area. The border between Estonia and Russia is within five minutes walk from the hotel and plenty of Russia people crossing the border by foot (which is interesting sights to behold – it appears most of them doing their shopping in this small town, since all of them carry so many bags on both of their hands). The garden, castle and river is close by and within walking distant.

Anyway, information about the city sights is readily available from the reception and there is plenty of parking space in front and at the back of the hotel if you drive like us and it is free for hotel guest.

In addition to this, the hotel has it is own grandeur restaurant downstairs which serve quite good food at reasonable price when we dine at night time (I will review the restaurant separately).

Our room located at the fourth floor without much of a view - facing the back of the building with a garden. The elevator ride was okay, not too slow but not fast either. The room itself quite large and airy with one double bed and night stand next to the bed, a chair and television. It also has a couple of windows which make the room brighter with the light from outside.

The bathroom is okay, but not that modern for this kind of budget or middle class hotel.

It was very quiet at night time and we could sleep well without any disturbance from the traffic outside or from our next door neighbour.

The buffet breakfast serve in the morning was good with plenty of selection from scramble eggs, sausages, cold meats, cheese, toast, jam, bread and fresh fruits. It was busy in the restaurant during breakfast time but plenty of tables for hotel guests.

Overall, it was an okay hotel for a night stay and we were quite happy with the room and the service.

Hotel Inger Salvatore Restaurant Sep 08, 2013
There are a few restaurants around Narva but after having a look at the menus at the different restaurants we end up going to the easy choice - the local restaurant at our own hotel. I guess sometimes you are just too lazy to go out wondering the city to find something which may or may not be better compared to what you can get just downstairs walking through the lobby and a couple of doors to reach the big room housing the local hotel restaurant.

From the outside the entrance to the restaurant is pretty impressive but we take the discrete route from the hotel reception. When we get to the restaurant there is a girl singing playback - she isn’t very good but to compensate for her lack of singing skills she make sure the volume is turned up very high - actually a bit higher than the equipment is designed for. The waiter wants to do us a favor and place us at a good central table at the windows to have a look at the outside world. It is near the entrance and right next to the music. We try to explain to the waiter we don’t really want to sit anywhere close to the music - actually we would like a table as far away from the music as possible. After a bit of a confused look on his face we get a table which is at least some distance away from the music - which reduce the volume of the music from uncomfortably loud to just noisy and loud.

The waiter doesn’t speak much English but at least the menu is in English so we manage to order the food without much problem. The beer arrives fairly quickly so I don’t have to stay thirsty while waiting for the food. Like all Estonian restaurants they also come with some decent bread fairly quickly to make sure you are not starving too much before the food arrives. The food takes a bit to arrive fortunately we have decided to go for a couple of soups as starters which cuts down a bit on the waiting time. The seafood soup has got a lot of scrimps, mussels and fish in it - there is surprisingly mounts of seafood in the soup for the price - maybe the price is just low since the sea, rivers and lakes are so close by the city. The soup based on chanterelles was pretty good as well but it did have a bit of a strange look to it.

The main dish arrives after a bit of a wait and we have seafood pasta and a fillet of pork with gratin potatoes. The seafood was decent but not quite as generous as the soup had been - it still had a decent amount of seafood you just didn’t get completely overwhelmed like you would expect after you had seen the soup. The pork and potatoes seems to be of better value.

We tried a couple of other hotels next to each other before reaching the Inger hotel. The other hotels were either full or only had the most expensive rooms left so we gave up on these hotels. Instead we had borrowed the internet at one of the hotels and saw Inger still had plenty of rooms left for 45 € each. So we walked just around the corner from the next door hotel to Inger - we were a bit scared of driving since we had some trouble navigating the road works which seems to be going on all over Narva before the weather change to freezing temperatures.

When we get to the hotel they ask a much higher rate - like 65 € and we ask if they can’t do a cheaper rate - and they say no. we tell them we have seen the hotel room for 45 € online - but this doesn’t convince the receptionist are not allowed to offer any discounts. Instead she tells us we can use the computer in the lobby or we can have the password for the Wi-Fi so we can use our own computer to book the room for the much cheaper rate. We walk back to the car to get the laptop and then we drive back to the hotel and park in front on the fairly big parking lot which easily got enough space for the guest cars.

We get a room on the fourth floor facing away from the street so we won’t get bothered by the possible noise from the roadwork when it starts in the morning the next day. The room is pretty big and light - it is long with a couple of windows facing the courtyard behind the hotel. So there is plenty of natural light coming in the room. There is the basic furniture you would expect in a hotel with a couple of beds with bed tables next to the beds, a chair a table and a television.

The bathroom is at a reasonable size and fortunately it is a dry shower covered off from the rest of the bathroom. The shower is a bit on the small side of things though.

There is a decent breakfast buffet in the morning with scramble eggs and sausages, toast and jam and a pretty big selection of cold meats. The cold meats are the backbone of a breakfast here in Estonia judging from the hotels we have stayed at around this area. There is also some fruit for the breakfast if you like in addition to the much needed coffee for waking up in the morning.

The reception got a bit of information of the city if you need to figure out where you want to go. To be honest Narva is so small so you can probably figure it out pretty quickly without much guidance - just head for the river and you will soon find the castle which is by far the main attraction of the city. The fortress is probably about 10 minutes walk from the hotel so it is good fresh walk after a solid breakfast.

Seems odd the receptionist couldn't give you the cheaper rate at the desk.

Hotel Inger Salvatore Restaurant Sep 08, 2013
This restaurant is part of the hotel restaurant where we stay for the night. The building is quite large made from glass (we could not find any brick work at this place).

After we check the menu and price, we decided to give it a try. The staff in the restaurant speaks little English but we managed to communicate with them and order the food.

The restaurant seems double up as a bar as there is loud live music near the entrance way and many chairs and table with candle lights around it. We prefer the table at the back so we do not have to scream to each other while talking and to avoid those loud noise form the speaker.

The drinks arrive quickly and also the bread which is quite nice. Not long after, our soup arrive and my seafood soup has lots of seafood of it which make me very happy. It was more like main than the entry and I was quite surprise since the price is really cheap, like €5 for the soup for those kind of seafood. Our only explanation – probably it is close to the sea and they just fish it there without much overhead. The taste was delicious – might be better than the other soup which look quite strange greenish colour.

I order seafood pasta for the main and it was okay but not as delicious as the soup and not much seafood on it. We though probably the restaurant run out of seafood after they served me the seafood soup.

Anyway, it was still decent. And the filet of pork with gratin potatoes look yummy and might be better than my pasta.

Since I was hungry, I eat all my pasta and very full after it.

I do not remember the total cost of the dinner but it was very reasonable down to cheap for those kind of food and compare with other restaurant nearby.

The Inger !! Dec 11, 2010
I have visited Narva on quite a few occasions both on Business or pleasure or a combination of the two !! I always stop at the Inger or the King, the location is good in the City Centre with the main square and a shopping centre closeby , it is clean , spacious with good facilities , free parking , Sauna , Beauty centre , not that i've used it !! and the attached bar and resteraunt serve good quality and reasonably priced food.

Like many of the Hotels in Eastern Estonia the Bar / Restaraunt opening times can sometimes change from day to day but that isn't aproblem as other bars / restaraunts etc are close by.

The rooms are basic but clean and tidy with en suite facilities and the staff who all speak English are helpful without being all over you . To some people they may seem quite reserved but that is just the way here in a City where East meets West.

Free WIFI is standard and the internet is also avaibale in the reception area
