Hotel Ibis Roppongi Tokyo Reviews
May 27, 2006
Located right in the middle of Tokyo's Roppongi district, the Ibis hotel is an excellent choice for budget minded travelers going to Tokyo. With room rates around 10,000 Yen, the price is right for an otherwise very expensive tokyo. The location in the middle of Roppongi puts it right in the middle of the Japanese night life, with easy access to the Roppongi subway station and stumbling distance of a variety of nightclubs.Accomodations: The rooms are tiny, as you may have heard about tokyo. There is a comfortable double bed and a narrow desk, with just enough room to walk between them. A very small closet is located next to the cruise ship style bathroom, with enough room to sit on the toilet without hitting your knees on the wall. I actually found the room quite cozy and comfortable, but the size of the rooms will probably come as a shock for many travelers.Don't let fears about the size of the room affect your opinion of the quality. The small television has a good variety of channels, and the room includes many nice comfort features including a console by the bed that controls the lights and tv, and High Speed Internet. The rooms are very clean and the bathroom is well appointed with a remote control bide built into the toilet and good water pressure and temp.Finding this hotel can be a bit tricky, and any traveler to Tokyo is familiar with the long trip from Narita Airport into the city. Once you get into Roppongi, the cab drivers are often not familiar with this particular hotel, so keep your eyes peeled for the large IBIS sign that is visible from the road. For specific instructions, you should check their website. Once you get there, you need to haul yourself and your luggage to the elevators to the fifth floor, which is where the hotel lobby is located. When it is time to leave Tokyo, your cheapest bet is to take the airport bus from the nearby Ana hotel. The Ana is a very nice five star hotel, but on the first floor is a ticket booth and bus stop for direct rides to the airport. Make sure you get reservations 24 hours in advance, because this bus is often full.Nearby sights: You won't miss the many nightclubs once the sun goes down, but there are some other good things to see in close proximity to the hotel. If you take a right out of the lobby, and another right at the first major intersection, you will come to the Roppongi Hills mall about half a kilometer down the road. At the top floor of the building is a public observatory and art museum, with an excellent view of Tokyo and a good close up of the Tokyo Tower. There is also a famous spider sculpture outside, with some good photo ops. There is plenty of food around, but be prepared to go inside buildings and up very tiny elevators to find them. The Hard Rock cafe and Tony Romas are easily within walking distance, and there is a shwarma stand down the street as well. Starbucks and Wendy's are also just down the street, in addition to the numerous japanese restaurants.
