Great location Jul 12, 2014
My partner and I stayed at this hotel on a Saturday night whilst we were in Surfers Paradise for a birthday party. I booked on due to the price which was only $130 for the night. I was pretty certain the hotel advertised free parking but I was told on check in it was $15 for people booking on Pretty steep but considering the parking is in central Surfers Paradise not a surprise.

We didn't really use any of the hotel facilities however they have all the usual; Restaurant, Bar, Wifi, Pool etc plus mini golf, tennis court etc. The hotel is very very well located in the center of Surfers Paradise in the same complex as the Centro Shopping Center and just minutes walk to the restaurants, bars & shops of Cavill Mall.

The room itself we had great views of the beach up on the 11th floor and whilst it was adequate for a nights stay, the room was quite dated and the bed a bit hard. There was only a couple of plastic chairs on the small balcony. The room had a new flatscreen tv, however the soaps etc were not very nice, quite harsh on the skin and the bath was very shallow, not nice for lying in. My main issue with the room was lack of additional bedding. There was one additional pillow, however the covers on the bed were not very warm considering it is winter and there was no extra blankets. I was freezing.

Service was the usual, nothing special. The guy at the front desk said he thought the other non hotel parking down the road was about the same, we went there and it was $25 for the weekend. No fee for just an overnight park. Not something he should have commented on unless he knew for sure.

Hotel Grand Chancellor, Surfers Paradise Aug 21, 2011
I have to admit that Grand Chancellor is a bit pricy for 6 days, but it is perfectly strategically located in the Surfers Paradise. I booked the hotel originally just for 3 days via Lonely Planet (with the rate of 3 stars hotel in Sydney, I considered myself getting pretty good price because Grand Chancellor is 4 stars). My flight had been extended for 2 days due to the airline’s schedule change.

The beach is just within 5 minutes walk, with the centre of all kind of entertainment within walking distance as well, such as Cavill Circle, Cavill Mall, Centro Department Store (which also has Woolworth in it), or Hard Rock Café and other restaurants / cafes along the road. The hotel itself is located in the intersection of Surfers Paradise Boulevard, and Fraser Avenue, Beach Rd, Orchid Rd are just within 10 minutes walk. Bus stops are easily reached, and there is one information centre just 5 minutes walk from the hotel.

Facility wise, I think the hotel provides pretty good values. Besides the standard toiletries, coffee / tea, fridge, television, ironing facility, hair dryer, each room has safe deposit (big enough to accommodate one laptop), and bathtub. Gym facility, tennis court, and swimming pool are available. Laundry facilities are available (4 $ for washing machine – 30 minutes, however the fee for drying is slightly higher than normal Laundromat at 4 $ for 15 minutes).

If you’re lucky, you can get the room with the beach + the high rise buildings view, with sun rise / sun set view (as long as it’s not too cloudy). During a sunny day, sitting in the balcony with the breeze was quite nice for a short break from exploring Gold Coast. The hotel also has a quite decent restaurant (breakfast – lunch – dinner) and a bar in one of the lower floor.

Tours pick up point are also very close to the hotel. During my stay, I had joined the day tour to Tamborine National Park and O'Rilley National Park, in which the pick up point is at Beach Rd, just 5 minutes walk from the hotel. My other tour was Whale Watching Paradise, in which the cruise left from the jetty behind Appel Park behind Vibe Hotel at Frasers Avenue. It was only 5 minutes walk as well across the Cavill Circle.

Reaching hotel from airport was quite easy. Gold Coast airport has shuttle bus that can drop and pick up at the hotel (or at least at the safest nearest pick up point). It took around 30 minutes travel time from Grand Chancellor to airport. If you want to check out in the morning (11 am latest check out time) but need to leave your baggages, the hotel provides concierge services that can keep your belongings until you fetch them later. In general all the staffs are professional and friendly.

Best location ever! Jul 10, 2009
Booked our rooms from and only paid $99/room/night. It was pretty good value. Breakfast wasn't included - you have to pay an extra $20 per person per day if you want to take the breakfast option. It's very worth getting the breakfast buffet because breakfast outside at the cafes are already worth at least $10, excluding drinks.

The quality of the rooms were better than Sheraton's, in my opinion. The linen used & even the pillows & doonas were of better quality. Quite surprised by this & very impressed. Can't say the same thing about Sheraton.

We booked for a standard room but upon arrival, we were told that our rooms weren't available. They would upgrade us to level 24 instead of 13 at no added cost. We were more than happy to take up their offer. The view was excellent, we were situated close to the top. It's only about 5 mins walk to the beach and even less to get to the shops located below.

Don't forget to check out the Asian restaurants in that alley/building in front of Waxy's Pub. Shopping's until 9pm which is pretty good.

Can't wait to go back there again. All in all, this place is located right in the heart of Cavill Avenue. Very much worth the $99/night we paid.

I also highly recommend their $42 seafood platter, you get crabs, prawns, oysters, mussells, salmon, fish, scallops, salad & more. Best value ever.

Oh a word of warning, it's a pretty popular hotel so please bear in mind that check in/out will be hectic.
