Beautiful with Unique Touches Nov 26, 2016
This was the most beautiful of the hotels we stayed in during our Iceland trip but it had unique touches that kept it from feeling too elegant and posh.

Another gravel parking lot with a short walk to the midpoint of the hotel to enter.

The entrance had a glass enclosed space with electronic door first before you entered the check-in part of the lobby. However, the main lobby where guests could relax was farther in, on the opposite side of the bar. The bar had a few stools of its own but the couches next to the wide windows were more appealing. Plus, the view! The hotel looks out to the fjord which is stunning.

The hotel had two eating areas: the dining room and an area where you could get food in the afternoon. The morning buffet was served in the dining area. The dining area was low-lighting but had gorgeous tables. As I had discovered at the previous two hotels, the dinner menu was not large but had choices. As always, the food was filling and delicious. Breakfast in the morning had plenty to satisfy the hungry guest.

Our room was on the second floor and was a surprise--it was a lofted room! The bathroom was to the left as you entered with storage on the right (quite a bit of it). Up a few steps to the sitting area with its loveseat, chair, and shallow desk with phone and TV. Then up a stairwell to the sleeping area which did have some recessed lighting and more storage space. Our room had a big window that looked to the hill behind the hotel. We didn't have enough daylight to take advantage but I could see a trail leading up the hill and probably another stellar view of the fjord.

The bathroom was nicely-detailed (loved the plush red towels) but had little space to put toiletries around the sink. Also the shower did not have its own dedicated space; you pulled the doors out to make the shower space which is good on space-saving but bad for a dry floor throughout the whole bathroom after a shower. I also had difficulty getting the controls figured out for hot water.

The shower was not the only difficulty I had here. Our door did not lock on the first several tries. We had to get help from the front desk and it worked fine after that (some switch on the doorjamb).

The hot tubs were out the door at the end of the hallway. There were two and they faced the fjord.

Also on our level was a reading balcony with plenty of older books including a few in English and a computer.
