Hotel Fortina Sliema Reviews
A mixed bag Dec 25, 2011
Great location but I had mixed views on this place. 60 euro a night for very large double room for single use. Very comfortable and clean room though a slight constant damp smell from bathroom which was otherwise ideal. Fair sized balcony overlooking gardens. Construction work going on behind gardens during my stay in November 2011.
Full English buffet breakfast included.
Great views of Valletta from front of hotel.
Convenient location. The bus X2 to and from airport stops about 100 metres from hotel - same stop both ways.
Plenty of lively restaurants and cafes nearby. Some shopping also.
Free boat tour of Valletta harbour included. Shuttle boat taxi service to Valletta leaves from near hotel also.
Selection of indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Jacuzzi.
Now some negative aspects:
Staff were not always helpful or friendly.
Swimming pools etc all seemed to close around 18.00. It had been my intention to use these facilities after my days sightseeing but because of this early closing, this was not possible.
The hotel was part of a larger complex and had a very big, impersonal feel to it. On site restaurants were expensive but to be fair, there was no need to use them.
Getting ticket for free boat tour meant dealing with a very smarmy representative who was trying to sell timeshares in the complex.
Lifts badly in need of upgrade.
No wifi in room. Wifi in reception but signal could be patchy.
I can recommend this hotel particularly for the location but will probably try somewhere else on next visit to Malta.
