Hotel Edinburgh – Kitwe Zambia Nov 11, 2009
The Hotel Edinburgh has a faded elegance from by-gone days. I had one of the rooms newly remodeled but some of the others in our group had older rooms and were not happy. The room was clean, but the towels and bedding have seen better days. The bed and pillows were comfortable. All of the rooms had air-conditioning, although I didn’t really need it at night. The elevator did not work from the ground floor so we had to carry our luggage up the stairs. The staff was fairly friendly and helpful, and they did have security outside after dark.

Clearly built in the colonial days, this hotel is now looking somewhat shabby but since there are no five star hotels in the area, there is little choice. Kitwe is the hub of the copperbelt and the principle industrial and commercial centre of the area. The Edinburgh Hotel seems to be a popular venue for conferences, functions, and even weddings. The hotel boasts restaurants, bars, casino and a swimming pool. While we were here we never got back until late in the evenings so never really got a chance to explore anything other than one of the restaurants where they served breakfast.
