The bold orange facade is their way of saying we're the best! Sep 12, 2015
You'd be amazed at how eye catchy this hotel is! It's situated right on the periphery of what one would call "old town" or "centre ville" of Strasbourg. It's got a bright orange façade and is the only building of such flamboyance in a street full of a Church and fairly dull concrete buildings. It's very well connected by bus (#10, the circular route) and 2 tram lines, plus a walk away to the Cathedral, Petite France and other major tourist attractions.

Coming to the hotel itself: very friendly reception staff, although I felt the reception area was a little small and at times, understaffed. there's a lovely open seating area where a lot of folks were just chatting, I thought this was a good idea.

Hotel rooms are good. I was a little disappointed at the lack of conveniently placed power outlets (for example there were 2 hiding behind my bed!). But bedroom and bathroom are clean and well equipped. The TV stations are mostly French and German which is common in that area with a few sterile English channels thrown in as well (CNN International, BBC, etc.)

Breakfast, of buffet variety again is brilliant. As with a typical European breakfast, one has a choice of several cheese and bread. Coffee and tea is promptly served by staff.

Overall, it's really hard to find fault in this hotel. I'd recommend it whole heartedly to anyone wishing to spend a few nights in Strasbourg.
Can't miss the front façade!

3-Star Hotel Conveniently Located near Strasbourg City Center Feb 13, 2010
We stayed at the Hotel du Dragon or Dragon Hotel in Strasbourg, France during Valentine’s Day/President’s Day weekend in 2010 for the annual Independent French Wine Growers Association Wine Expo. The hotel was good and the tram ride to the wine expo was not too bad—minus 1 connection.

Hotel du Dragon is a 3-star hotel along the Ill river (which is a western tributary of the Rhine River) in the downtown historic area of Strasbourg, which is located in the Alsace region of north-eastern France. The Alsace is wine producing region and has been influenced by both French and German architecture.

My wife Jenny stayed at this same hotel in the early 1990's on business, so we decided to try it again since she enjoyed her previous stay.

The hotel staff was friendly--and even gave us free tickets to get in to the Independent Wine Grower's Association Wine Expo--the entire reason for our trip! Getting to the Wine Expo was easy via street tram with one change. With wheelchair access for the tram, it was pretty easy to roll on/roll off our wheeled luggage rack full of wine, although we took a taxi to/from the main train station.

Plenty of restaurants and several scenic Strasburg half-timbered buildings/architecture of the Alsace Region nearby. I thought it was a good value, especially for the central location. The rooms were a little dated but clean. Amenities included room service for a beer, sandwich, glass of champagne, cold meal, glass of burgundy, etc. during normal hours plus a € 12 set meal with ham, cheeses, butter, gherkins, fruit, yoghurt, chocolate, bread served 24x7. Breakfast is served daily from 0630-1030 in the dining room or in the garden, weather permitting. A full breakfast of tea, coffee, orange juice, variety of breads, cereals, jams, marmalade,”croissants”, cheese, ham, yoghurts, fresh fruit, boiled eggs costs € 11,50 per person. If booked the night before, breakfast can even be served in your room.

The bed was a little saggy towards the middle but comfortable. the bathrooms were clean and roomy with a full tub and shower combo. The staff was friendly and efficient, plus you get free WiFi!

I don't recall the cost per room but we used Booking.com and got a great rate. The hotel charges 81 € to 149 € for a single or double superior room. They also have "family rooms" with two adjoining double rooms from € 159 to € 230.

If we ever take another trip to Strasbourg (probably for the Wine Expo every February), we will definitely stay here again at Hotel du Dragon!
