Fun, Funky and Charmingly Run-Down May 30, 2012
We enjoyed our stay at this quirky little hotel! If you are expecting luxury and U.S. standards, this isn't the place for you. But if you are looking for a tiny mom-and-pop style European hotel, give it a go! Out of all the places we stayed on our trip to Europe, this is the one that gave us the best stories to tell folks back home. Again, if you are expecting a Hilton or Marriott, this isn't the place for you. This place is fun, funky and charmingly run-down. If you have a "go with the flow" attitude and can enjoy its quirks, you'll love it!

Yes, the rooms are very pink! Our room, 248, looked like an old-style brothel. The wallpaper is dark and the rooms are tiny. I could stand between the two walls with my arms outstretched and touch both sides of the room. It made for very close quarters but we managed, even with all of our luggage. The bed was touching the wall but it was comfortable and very clean. Our room had a glass door with a patio, but it looked out onto nothing but 4 concrete walls (no window or view). Some rooms have great views but ours didn't. It didn't bother us at all because who cares about sitting in their room anyway? The room had a small flat screen t.v. but it was up in the rafters so you couldn't really see the screen (not a bother to us, but something others may care about). The "closet" was a pole that ran along the top of the room.

Although the bedroom itself was tiny, the bathroom was fairly spacious and kept very clean. A hair dryer was even provided in the bathroom. Even the towels were pink! The towels provided sometimes had a very unpleasant musty, mildewy odor; if you get a smelly towel just ask for others. I can't comment on the a/c since it wasn't turned on during our visit (in May), but we were able to keep cool by opening our patio door at night to let in fresh air. The room smelled very clean, just the towels were sometimes a bit funky.

The hotel was clean but our room showed signs of serious wear. It wasn't a big deal to us, but others might be horrified. I have posted some pictures of our room where you can see the worn carpet, torn wallpaper, etc. This place is not a "dump" by any means (it is very, very clean), but if your standards are high, you need to know what you are getting into. The staff was friendly and wonderful and the hotel had very good security. Our room was quiet and comfortable and, giving the amazing location, very reasonably priced.

The location of this hotel is fabulous. It is located right on the upper part of Las Ramblas with easy walking to many shops, restaurants and bars right outside your door. The wonderful La Boqueria market was right down the street so we frequently walked over there to grab cheap wine, fresh bread and fruit and more.

The hotel does provide a complimentary 24 hour buffet but we never used it (except for the soda machine; it was nice to have a glass of diet soda after a long day of sightseeing; the hotel even provided ice at the buffet, which is a rarity in Europe). I didn't pay much attention but it looked like the buffet had a small salad bar, a variety of loaf bread, and a drink machine with wine, beer, water, juice and soda. Many people were eating full meals at this buffet and I don't understand why you would do that when Barcelona's many delicious and inexpensive local restaurants and tapas bars are steps outside your door!

Overall we had a comfortable stay and we would not hesitate to book this hotel again.

I have this hotel booked as well as Hotel Barcelona Universal. I love the charm of this hotel, but I'm concerned that there may be bugs(roaches), did you see any at all? I have a terribly serious bug phobia.

Don´t just look at the price May 26, 2010
This hotel is amazing. We booked this based on it´s entry in the 2010 Rick Steves travel guide so we really didn´t know what to expect. We kept ourselves on a bit of a budget and this hotel was pushing the limit for us.

I didn´t expect the door to be labeled so well and for it to be in such a great place. It is located on the left side of Las Ramblas withen sight of the Metro Station that exits on to Las Ramlas. When we walked out we were stunned to see it right there, brightly lit and easy to identify.

Once inside the elevator was well marked and it was dedicated to the hotel which is actually on the 2, 3, and 4th floors (starting at 0 for ground like the Eurpeans do it) We got off and the hotel door opened automatically for us. The hostess spoke English and directed us to our room. While the elevator can take you there, the hotel has a series of interior stairs and paths which make you feel less like you´re in an apartment building, and more like you´re in their hotel.

From the lobby there are several seating areas including a small balcony that looks right out on Las Ramblas. They also have a few rooms with private balconies available.

There is a large snack and breakfast buffet which is open 24 hours and includes cereal, toast, rice, and fruit to eat. To drink they have coffee, tea, wine (red and white), beer, water, various sodas, orange juice, and milk (skim and regular)

Every night we were here we had a couple of drinks, and a snack. Every morning we had some breakfast to get started. That´s easily a savings of 15-20€ a day.

The room was great. Air conditioning, fan, windows that open, and a fairly large bathroom. The bed was very comfortable, and the television even had a few english news channels (all the other hotels during our 2 weeks had Spanish channels only)

Free Wi-Fi and several computers available througout the hotel make checking emails and getting boarding passes or other information easy. Additionally the reception desk staff has a variety of maps and information for guests.

This hotel is amazing and the price is perfect.

Great place with lots of "personality" on Ramblas Feb 20, 2010
We enjoyed our stay here on two separate nights in two different balcony rooms overlooking Las Ramblas. I found the price of hotels in Barcelona to be approx $130/night on average in the winter. This hotel was closer to $155/night but it includes 24 hour snacks and drinks (soda, beer, wine) and has a really great location. Here you can watch street performers, pickpockets, and visitors easily and safely from your perch above Las Ramblas. You are also walking distance from a number of local chains and fancier restaurants. Highly recommend this one.

My husband and I walked (45 minutes) to the port without problems to meet our cruise ship as well which saved us $40 dollars each way in cab fare!

location on La Rambla & FREE BEER! Jul 15, 2009
ok walked up to the front desk of the COntinental cause i needed a place close to Placa Catalunya and the airport bus to catch my flight in the morning. 85 euro on a Tuesday, for a place overlooking La Rambla, with a nice little balcony and table. included with the room as follows: free beer 24/7, free wine 24/7, and a 24/7 buffet. are you shitting me???!!! what a deal. but i do warn you the rest of the hotel is complete shit, i could barely look at the room, it was like a bad little miss nightingale remake, all pink with lacey shit everywhere. i couldn't believe they haven't updated the decor since 1960! oh well, free beer will keep me coming back. I LOVE BARCELONA!!
