Centauro Hotel Venice Jul 17, 2009
Our second hotel of our Italy trip. We booked this but I didn't read any reviews on this website. I was a bit shocked while reading the other review, which is criticizing the hotel like *@#*@.
The alley is quite dark, but not unfindable.. It's just a matter of following the street numbers, since whole Venice is numbered incrementally. We found it easily, making one mistake by walking into a dead end. :p It's a 5 minute walk from the hotel to the San Marco square, so the location is good. The staff welcomed us in a nice way. The interior of the hotel is cosy. The rooms are air-conditioned and very small, though quite standard for Venice I guess(?). The bed was a bit small. The room and bathroom were clean. There was a alarm thingy above the shower, which I really didn't understand? (see picture) :P The breakfast was basic but good. There is no internet connection available, although the hotel advertises with this. When I asked about the Internet connection, he told me that their advertisement points at the all over Venice available (paid) Internet. Part of the Italy: Milan, Venice, Rimini travel blog |

Don’t Bother
We stayed at Hotel Centauro for three nights and were rudely woken up at 6.30am to 7.00am each morning. Turns out the laundry was strategically placed directly above our room and this was the best time for the laundry lady to wash, iron, fold, and test her heavy high-heeled shoes on the stone floor above. Three mornings of complaints earned us three frustrating styles of indifference ranging from "I will see what I can do" to "There is nothing I can do" to a simple shrugging of the shoulders with palms faced forward in an open-handed salute. They were completely rude to us and added insult to injury by offering to move us to another room at our cost. We declined. In addition to the horrors of the laundry, we eventually found our bathroom inconveniently positioned some 25 metres or so up a hall that passed another dozen-or-so rooms. We met most of the other guests in the hotel clad in nothing but a towel and clutching our toiletries. The room was small and bunker-like. Hotels are notoriously difficult to find in Venice however Hotel Centauro is easily located by finding the darkest most narrow back-alley adorned with scaffolding. Venice iteself is beautiful and the people friendly. We found the rudeness of our hoteliers an anomaly. We travelled through Europe for nearly three months over July, August and September and stayed in literally dozens of hotels. Out of all of them, we easily rated this our worst experience. |

:p We stayed in the 3star Centauro hotel, which was in the same neighborhood as - and very close to - the San Marco square. We bought a Rolling Venice card (EUR 4), which gives you discounts to many churches, museums and some restaurants. Additionally, we bought a youth ticket for the entire… Venice |
