Hotel Bougambillos, Home Base For Day Tripping The Puuc Trail Oct 02, 2009
The Mayan Puuc Trail is a small geographic area southwest of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico by about 50 miles. This blog will provide the plan to visit Uxmal, Kaban, Sayil, Xlapak, Labna, Edzna, Hochob, Xcalumkin and Dzibilnocac. There are also two historic caverns to visit Loltun and Xtacumblixunaan. Home base for this Puuc Route will be Ticul. You could reach all these places with several day trips from Merida. You could also make your home base at one of the expensive hotels at Uxmal. However Ticul offers affordable hotels, several more than adequate restaurants, good locations for purchasing the essential of life and an opportunity to visit a nice town. There is a huipil weaving industry here, The embroidery is of very good quality. On my last visit there was a utilitarian pottery industry. I can recommend Hotel Sierra Sosa, Hotel San Miguel, Hotel Bougambillas and Hotel- Motel Cerro Inn. Hotel Bougambillas is about a mile from the center of the town on the Muna - Merida Highway. Hotel Bougambillasis the newer of the 2 highway hotels. The grounds are well kept, the interior of the hotel is covered with bright tiles. There are a number of Maya style yard ornaments on the grounds and in the front desk area. The rooms are clean, basic with ceiling fans. The rooms were rented based on the number of beds, one bed was under $12.00 per night, two beds was under $25.00 per night. These prices fell once I was recognized as a good frequent customer to $10 and $15 per night.
I would try to eat at Restaurant Los Almendros as many times as possible. This place specializes in Yucatecan dishes. It is located at Calle 23, number 207.
