I stayed at Hotel Borg and thought it was great! It is one of the oldest hotels in Reykjavik, built in 1930, so it has lot of charm. It was recommend by my fiance and this is his fifth time to Iceland and he stays there every time.
It's a four star hotel It is decorated in an art deco style and is situated in the middle of everything of the town square. On the corner if Cafe Paris which has great food and cool night life and there is another club on the other corner (don't know the name). It was a very vibrant area with lots to do and ALOT of people. Also a bonus, the Hotel must do something to the water because it doesn't smell like sulfur at all! The fly bus from the airport can drop you off right in front.
