Hotel Blafell Breiddalsvik Reviews

Comfortable, Clean & Affordable May 16, 2012
There's not much to Breiddalsvik so this wooden-sided hotel was easy to find down by the water.

The gentleman (only staff member on-site at the time of our visit?) was very friendly and spoke excellent English. We had a room right at the side of the hotel with a view of the mountains. The entire building smells of fresh cut wood which was cool, though our host said the hotel was built in 1998.

It felt like being in a well built cabin everywhere. For 89 Euros a night, it was a welcome good value, and breakfast was included. Unfortunately, given how early in the "season" it was (mid May), the restaurant wasn't yet open for dinner.

The room was a little on the small side but was functional enough; once again, all finished with wooden planks. The bed was the usual 2 twin beds pushed together with 2 separate sets of bedding on top, but was comfy. The bathroom was small but functional and the shower was good (but tight) and modern looking. It did take a while for the water to get hot as we were told that it was NOT geothermal hot water, unlike most places in Iceland.

The wifi could be picked up all over the hotel and was road runner-fast (nice for a serial blogger like me while on a trip!)

While I wasn't dazzled by it, I would recommend this hotel for solid accommodations in the Eastfjords, and would gladly stay here again if I return to the area.
