Hotel Bencoolen Singapore Reviews
Pleasantly surprised to get such a good deal in Singapore Dec 15, 2016
On 15th of December, 2016, I booked a Deluxe Double Room for one night on same day check-in. Upon stepping into the lobby, I was warmly greeted and offered a welcome drink (a lychee lime beverage which was refreshing).
Check-in was quick. Although my room gave the feeling of being a little worn and never upgraded since the 1990s, it was nice and spacious. The wardrobe and bathroom are spacious too. Beside the wardrobe, there is a fridge and safe.
Seeing that I got good value for my money, I booked for 3 more nights:
16th December: Twin Deluxe Room
17th and 18th December: Standard Twin Room
Despite not booking the Deluxe Double Room (I chose whatever was cheapest for each day) for the subsequent days, the check-in lady was nice enough to let me keep my nicer Deluxe Double Room for 4 days! Can't be happier!
Although I didn't use the spa and exercise equipment, I paid a visit - they were clean and deserted so great for those who hope to spend some chill time there.
Wifi connection: Requested at the lobby. On the first day, I was issued unique 24 hour usernames and passwords for each of my 2 devices.
On my second day, seeing that I have booked 3 nights, I was given unique 72 hour usernames and passwords for my devices.
The wifi connection in my room was good.
Location: A few minutes walk to Bras Basah MRT station. About 2km walk to Orchard MRT station.
Downsides: During my stay, there was road construction going on (new MRT station in progress) around and in front of the hotel such that the whole street is blocked; hence, when I needed to hail a cab, I had to walk a little farther. There is no business centre at this hotel. However, for about US$50/night stay, I can't complain.

Good location, but not exactly worth the money Dec 08, 2010
I booked a room at Hotel Bencoolen for 5 nights during my SAE trip in december.
I picked this hotel because it was the same hotel as the start hotel of my GAP adventures tour.
I know that hotels with good location in cities like Singapore are not cheap and usually very small.
Hotel Bencoolen is conveniently located quite close to Dhoby Ghaut MRT station and very close to the new circle line stop Bras Basah.
There's a food stall and a 7 eleven across the road.
You can easily walk to Bugis, Chijmes and Clarke/Boat Quay from there.
So locationwise I was very happy.
The rooms were expectionally small. Didn't even know where to put my suitcase.
A/C was effective, but loud and sometimes spilled out drops of water.
Cleanliness is ok if you're not so picky.
The room was equipped with mini fridge and water kettle, but that's standard in most asian hotels. It was nice to have an in-room safe.
There's WiFi internet, but you have to pay extra to use this service.
Breakfast was included, but except for freshly baked eggs was pretty crappy.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
I paid about 70 Euros per night using Agoda for reservation.
I think I would stay there again if I could get a good offer, but it's not worth more than 50 Euros.
Other than that I would recommend paying a little extra for a place like the IBIS on Bencoolen, or maybe check out the cheaper Hotel 81 Bencoolen, which is right next door.
Also check out Hotel Victoria on Victoria street, which is located near Bugis.

Quite Comfy Hotel Sep 03, 2009
When I went to Singapore on July 2009, I got some hotel issue with the local that made me switch place in a sudden. A friend recommended me to stay at Hotel 81. They are all around. One suggested me at Hotel 81 but when I took a cab there to the Bencoolen street, I got into the wrong hotel. It's actually next door with the Hotel 81. I am writing a review on that one also.
The Front Desk office wasn't really nice. But the room was quite large, and clean. Sure you don't expect something like deluxe 5-star hotel.. but for me, a nice clean bed and esp. nice clean shower is already heaven. I am quite a hygiene freak. I can go dirty outside, play in the mud and whatever, but at the end of the day, I still need a clean bed and bathroom, and I mean, really clean. For me, this hotel (well the room I rented) was quite good.
It was quite a good price when I was there before the summer peak season. Twin Bed, only SGD 118 per night. The price may varies though.
