The Hotel Anakin Stargate is part of the group which also includes Hotel and Hostel Stargate and Hotel Montestella. Located at 87 Via Palestro between Via Milazzo and Via Del Castro Pretorio, the hotel is only four blocks (easy walk) from Termini Station. As it is so close to Termini, it makes it very easy to get around Rome by public transport. Some of the Hotel Anakin rooms are located across the road at 88 Via Palestro, where the other hotels and hostel as well as reception are located. This is the part of the hotel we stayed in.

Our part of the hotel had been recently renovated, so
everything was in really good condition and very clean. We'd booked (and paid for) a twin
room but actually had a double bed and a single bed. The room was
quite a reasonable size (by European standards) with bedside tables at the side of both beds and in between. There was enough space between the end of the beds and the desk to easily wheel a large suitcase through. Because our room faced the street, it got a bit
noisy when the windows were open but the room had airconditioning so opening the window wasn't absolutely necessary when it got too warm.

There
was plenty of cupboard and drawer space and lots of electrical outlets for charging electronics. There was even a separate electric shaver socket in addition to a normal powerpoint in the bathroom.
We had a mini refrigerator which was good for keeping some snacks
and coffee making supplies on hand - no kettle but we had our own. The floor was tiled, which was fine except they were textured tiles which, while good for being non-slip, were obviously difficult to clean (loose dirt wise) because the grit would get caught in the grooves.

The bathroom was immaculate and the
water pressure in the shower was probably the best I've had in Italy.
There was also a retractable laundry line for hanging a little hand washing. Although the towels were only replaced every few days, the bathroom was wiped down and swept every day.

The staff
at the 24 hour reception desk were friendly and very helpful, even when we had
to check out at 4.30am to make it to Fiumicino for an early flight. They will also take phone messages (as there are no phones in the rooms) and provide recommendations of sightseeing and eating and whatever else might take your fancy. Security was excellent as you had to be buzzed into that section of the
building by reception, who had video cameras installed so they can see
who is buzzing. They also ask you to leave your key at reception when leaving the hotel at any time.

Breakfast is served in the communal kitchen, off to the right of reception, but it's a grab and go situation. As expected, it was just a small coffee and a
little pastry, but was included in the rate so no complaints there. It made a nice little snack first thing in the morning, before having a more substantial breakfast/brunch/lunch. But you have to get in early, i.e. in the first hour or there will most likely be no pastries left.

There was a laundry located just one block down from the hotel, on Via Varese, which also doubled as an internet cafe. Prices for laundry and internet, while not super cheap, were still reasonable. I'm sure there are more laundromats and internet stops in the surrounding blocks, as there are many hostels and budget hotels in the area (given the proximity to Termini, I'm sure).

There are also quite a few nice places to eat as well, like Africa on Via Gaeta which serves Ethiopian food (warning: no cutlery - you eat with your hands) or the Roadhouse Grill on the Via Marsala side of the station itself (for when you need a break from Italian food!).

All
in all, given the price we paid, I was very happy with our stay at
Hotel Anakin Stargate. If I ever return to Rome and am travelling on a
similar budget, I would definitely consider staying here again.
