Hotel Amrut Karwar Reviews
Great dining affordable price Feb 06, 2012
I was on a short trip to Karwar,Karnataka recently. Hotel Amrut was recommended by a friend whose love for fish is second only to his lust for single malt whiskeys.Karwar unfortunately is a poor cousin of Goa, underdeveloped as a tourist place ..on second thoughts it isnt touristy but rather as they say..provincal? The same cannot be said about Hotel Amrut...it is one place which can give all the Mumbai manglorean style fish restaurants a run for their money!Heres what to do when you crave for fish and happen to be or pass by Karwar....go right in and visit Hotel Amrut! Its on the Main Road...fortunately for a one horse town like Karwar there is only one Main Road!Once in the restuaurant there is a plethora of choices....sorry veggies this place is a fish joint...yes they do have the usual paneer dishes but we shall give them a miss. The first thing you notice about the fish is that its so fresh!...none of the frozen stuff here!My recommendations:Crab Sukka(Crab in a dry sauce), Crab butter garlic(second only to my Martins Corner, Goa Crab dish)followed by Kalva Sukka(green shell fish in dry sauce)and rice....a glass of the Bud is just an additional chill thrill! One mean thing which i did was that i went there with a vegetarian friend...i thus had the crab and kalva dishes to myself!...I guess i need to atone for my sins but its just that the place serves such tasty stuff at rock bottom prices(a meal for two is Rs 500!)compared to what we are used to in Mumbai ...i daresay i sinned on food!
Go to the first floor..thats where the 'family' restaurant is...the ground floor is for local boozeers so avoid
Ask for Mr Bharaath... the guy is a hands on owner and he can give you tips on whats fresh fish for the day...a friendly fellow
PS: The place is open for lunch and dinner and the ambience is better than most restaurants in Karwar
