Hotel Amager Feb 27, 2013
As Copenhagen is one of the expensive cities in Europe, I don’t want to spend too much money for hotel bill while visiting the place, and I do not stay inside the room all day either, therefore I was looking for budget friendly hotel not too far from city centre and very reasonable in price or cheap room if I could find. I booked this hotel from booking.com for a special price of 54 euro per night for single room without breakfast as it was late in winter and early spring. The price is cheaper compare with other hotel around the area.

The hotel building is quite small, three storeys high and located at the residential area, next to cemetery and it take fifteen minutes walk to the Royal Palace or Christianborg (now is a minister office with big square with statue of the King and horse). It is close to the train station; unfortunately I do not remember the name of the station, around five minutes’ walk from the hotel and handy to go to airport. The hotel building itself mix of red brick and wood and when walk through the wall way to the room, it is quite noisy with many turn, the lights around and inside the building design to turn on and off automatically and a couple of doors in the hallway to prevent damp or coldness go to the room probably, and I need my key to open this door.

The receptionist is very friendly, informative and helpful and allows me check in early in the morning around 9am without any extra charges as my flight arrive very early in Copenhagen. The hotel provided city map of Copenhagen free of charge and other brochure of the city such as boat ride, Tivoli park, and information of other restaurants.

I have a single room on the third floor and it is very small and have window facing the garden, probably a bit claustrophobia if I stay in the room all day, however it is clean with modern en suite bathroom and standing glass shower. The room itself is furnish with modern amenities, flat screen television, telephone, heating, and security deposit box. Unfortunately no wardrobe provide and only a couple of hanger to hang the clothing’s. Surprisingly it's very quite once inside the room and I can sleep well.

The hotel own a bar downstairs which serve as a breakfast room in the morning and also sell traditional Danish lunch (open sandwich) which is very cheap and other alcohol or non alcohol drink which is very cheap. Unfortunately the bar is quite smelly of tobacco or cigarette smell and I see several people smoking when I was having a drink there.

Opposite of the hotel, two bakery shops which sell many goodies and good hot chocolate at reasonable price but it is open at 10 am only, so I have to wait for it. There are several good restaurants nearby and I like the Thai and Indian food near the hotel and the price is reasonable but still high compare with other country. Overall, I enjoy my stay in this hotel.

ok-ish base to explore Copenhagen Aug 26, 2008
Like all Scandinavian capitals Copenhagen is an expensive place. The Hotel Amager is one of the few budget options in town (well, it still required a fairly big budget).

The prime selling point of this hotel is its location. The city centre is a 20-minute walk, or 5-minute bus ride away. The trip to the centre passes through Christiania. This seedy/bohemian/hippie/drugs infested/historic (circle applicable) neighbourhood is a sight in itself.

The hotel offers spaceous rooms, with all the usual amenities. The hotel also features a bar, which, surprisingly, still allows people to smoke. This bar is also the place where breakfast is served in the mornings, and the smell of stale beer and cigarettes is not particularly good for the appetite.

That said, if you just need a bed for the night at a location close enough to the city, then this certainly beats the overpriced Hiltons of the world.
