Quirky hotel in Frankfurt Aug 07, 2009
The "Hotel am Berg" is located in Sachsenhausen, a southern district of Frankfurt. It is close to public transport, e.g. the subway, and about 20 minutes' walk away from the center of town.
The hotel is quite quaint and quirky, a little bit like a German version of "Fawlty Towers" for those of you who know the British comedy series. It is family-owned and family-run and it shows in the attention od staff and quality of service. They offer breakfast as an option so it is not included in the price. But overall prices are reasonable, mainly because they charge per room, not per person. The rooms are enormously huge, even their medium-sized rooms are quite big. Should you be lucky enough to stay in room 1A you will have a bathroom that is the size of a living room, the main room itself it more than double that. Every room has a little quirky extra, either a long balcony, a massive bathroom with exercise bike, or a little turret perfect for sunbathing. Frankfurt has a few exhibitions and during those times all hotels get very busy and fill up quickly. This is especially true for the "Buchmesse" but also other events. During these times prices are usually higher and that's also true for the "Hotel am Berg", so check in advance whether any events are on in town. A little later we then cut the cake, which I had baked myself the day before. After our guests had left, Matthew and I delivered the presents and cards to my family's house and then left for the Hotel am Berg, where we stayed for the wedding night, before dosappearing off on honeymoon early the next morning.
