Hotel and Camp Apr 07, 2015
Hotel Alem is a two stars hotel, located in the summer resort Baško Polje, next to Baška Voda, in the Makarska municipality. It's position in a peaceful surroundings of a beautiful pine forest by a long pebble and almost natural beach gives it a charm that many expensive hotels do not have. As the hotel is not so crowded last years, it is a real pleasure to spend time on its clean beaches. Town of Makarska is ten kilometers southwest and the nearest place 1km towards north is Baška Voda.

Service in the hotel restaurant is quick, half board, not a great choice of food but good enough. During summers guests can order a la carte meals in the restaurant by the beach, and there is alive music on a beautiful and wide terrace in the evenings. All gardens are full of different flowers that gives a special relaxing atmosphere.

Among other facilities there is a market and parking lot in front of the hotels main building, gratis for the guests. There are small shops by the beach selling snacks and all you need for the beach. The beach is pretty long with several small bays with a plenty of space for everybody, not like in other places where people almost sit on each other. Showers at the beach are also in good condition, free of charge unlike in Makarska.

My room had a balcony with a sea view. Beds are old but comfortable, chairs and table, a mirror, night lamps. No airconditioning neither wifi. Bathroom was standard and minimum equipped, but everything was clean and functional.

There are playgrounds for basketball, volleyball, soccer and bowling free for guests. In the case of need for the first aid there is an ambulance with a doctor in the hotel and a hospital in Makarska.

For those who do not ask for much, this is a perfect place, better than a camp. For all other needs and active life in summer nights, there are many cocktail bars and night clubs in Baška Voda, connected with Baško Polje by a long walking path. Although fires in summer are common thing in this part of the world, the forest here has always been best protected, the resort is a safe place for a summer holiday.

In its golden days the hotel used to be a summer resort for military officers and their families, but it was free for everybody to use the beaches. On the other side, in the neighbourhood Baška Voda there were many foreign tourists, mostly Germans. Today they are substituited with naked Polish women, that cause disguster of other visitors.

A friend of mine used to spend summer holidays here in several last years and I also wanted to come and see it with my own eyes. My plan was to spend a whole week there, but I was sorry when I had to leave earlier due to a sudden rain that spoiled my holiday in July.
