Cheap, deserted, and did I say Cheap? Dec 22, 2007
The location isn't great, the area isn't great, but the price rocks! The more nights you prepay, the cheaper it is, approximately $32/night if you pay for one night, and as low as $28/night if you prepay for like 8-10 nights. It's 2 trains, and 15-30 minutes away from anywhere in tokyo. 1 train and 2 stop to Ueno station which is basically a hub to most trains and from Ueno, you can get almost anywhere with 1 train. So when it comes down to it, you're still in Tokyo and while the train runs, you're close to anywhere in Tokyo. The hotel itself is on the main street, and says Accela down the side of the building in large letters so it's visible from a block away. The people who work downstairs don't speak a word of english, at all! But very minimal is needed to get a room there, only to reserve over the phone... You pay for the room by feeding money into a vending machine and picking the number of nights, the machine then gives you a voucher which you hand to the front desk... You get a locker downstairs with a personal code to put shoes or a small backpack or whatever else you want. Downstairs are some vending machines, a computer with internet (100yen per 15 minutes), laundry (washer/dryer) and a shower(200yen per 10 minutes of water). The rooms are small, look at the picture I shot, that's the whole room. behind the wall on the right, theres a decent FLAT ~17" TV and a fridge. The room comes with free internet, and the front desk will loan you an ethernet cable if you need one to plug into your laptop. There is enough floor space for the floor bed (which isn't very comfortable if you're used to normal beds, its the equivalent of sleeping on hardwood flooring with a decently padded sleeping bag), and your belongings, not much more at all, like 2 friends would be fairly uncomfortable hanging out in one room. They don't clean the room during your stay. They don't let you upstairs unless you're staying there, so friends can't come visit... Also, they're only open till 2AM, and like a lot of hotels in Japan, you don't keep your key, so you must drop it off and pick it up when you leave and come back. We once got back at like 2:03AM and it was locked down, we knocked for a few minutes though and they came out and opened it for us. There is a 2-3 person bathroom on each floor and its kept clean and very close to your room. So basically, this is not in any way in the best part of Tokyo, nothing to see is within walking distance (there is a convenience store down the street at the end of the block, open 24/7 to get snacks and stuff (its like a 7-11)). But this is a great place to stay if you're on a budget and want privacy (as opposed to a hostel). If theres something I didn't cover, feel free to message me!
