Hotel Aberdeen gives Americans a taste of home Nov 16, 2002
Though it has been quite some time since I've enjoyed this hotel in Rome (December of 2002), it left quite a good impression.
At the time reservations were made via email only and service was polite, speedy, and handled well. Traveling in the off-peak season provided for good rates (about $75 a night for a double bed). That rate also included a 10% discount on TOP of the good rate because I mentioned Rick Steve's book; Hotel Aberdeen is listed as a preferred hotel in the book. Every employee in this small but charming hotel were very fluent in English and were proficient in making Americans feel as though they were state-side. A continental breakfast on the upper floor was included with the room, which is fairly unusual in Rome and very nice and convenient. Aberdeen felt very safe, with a large gate closing after 10pm and buzzing the front desk is required to gain entry. Free internet service was offered in the lobby, which, again, was a great convenience to a traveler. Proximity to nice shopping on Nazionale was so close by. The train terminale was only about 2 blocks walking distance to the hotel, which helped me avoid being ripped off by the cab drivers who, I hear, drive you all over town then charge a fortune. Trevi Fountain and numerous restaurants and pubs are only a short walk away. The pubs close by are part of those listed on the Pub Crawl, which has become so famous in Rome. The room itself was very, very clean and comfortable with tile floors. The in-room hairdryer came in very handy to .... um..... dry my shoes as I was caught on a day with unusual torrential downpours all day. Of course, the view from my room looked at another building, but I wasn't in Rome to lounge in the hotel room, so it was a good deal. A deli was across the street, which was great to grab sodas and a sandwich to cut expenses, as was a McDonald's on the corner of the block. I see that they now have a lovely website that even provides SKYPE service. I have this place high marks and would not hesitate to stay here again and again. Part of the Italian Vacation travel blog
