Hotel 81 Rochor Singapore Reviews
Nice and comfortable - but where are the windows?! Jun 25, 2011
Hotel 81 Rochor is one hotel of the 'Hotel 81' chain in Singapore. The hotel is located right at the intersection of Jalan Besar and Mayo Street. The area is quite bustling and full of locals almost all day; hence the traffic could be a nightmare for car drivers. As for parking, I was lucky enough to find a spot right on the street and is free on the weekend! The hotel might be the best place to crash if you're overly obsessed with shopping at the Mustafa mall, located a couple of blocks away. The hotel is also very close to Singapore downtown, the heart of all that makes Singapore tick.
The first thing I noticed in the hotel lobby is the air conditioner - set to Arctic temperatures for some weird reason. It was seriously cold!
The room was clean and spotless! The interiors are modern and welcoming, although I ended up with a room with no windows - never been in one, so it was quite strange! The bathroom was tiny, and clearly needed some more room. The one thing that was very inconvenient was the lack of power outlets near the bed. There was a single outlet near the mirror, which meant I had to sit on a hassock after a tiring day until my laptop was charged. Damnit!
The hotel staff was quite ill-informed when it came to the charges for internet. I was told I needed to pay SGD 10 for 24 hours of internet (not the actual usage, but the time of validity). When I went to purchase it later at night, the receptionist told me I didn't need to pay at all. Very peculiar! To top that, the hotel changed their Wifi password every day.
For the food adventurers - the streets around Hotel 81 Rochor are packed with tons of local food joints and they definitely smell awesome! Eat your heart out :)
The service was prompt and eager. I left as a satisfied customer in the end, and would definitely recommend it to fellow TBs. Wish I had a couple of hotel pictures to post with my review; never thought I would be on TB and write a review about it :)
