Sleeping in ART and HISTORY Jul 06, 2011
To start off - I know that this review will never give justice to this artsy 8 room boutique/gallery hotel located in Siem Reap. If you want to be surrounded with everything beautiful, intriguing and every piece entwined with a story - then come and feast your eyes and mind in this wonderful, relaxing art oasis.

The hotel is located in a quiet area of Siem Reap, near the river road. It is ideally located as you are away from the hustle and bustle of the nightlife and the night market scene yet close enough to just take a short tuktuk drive.

I had booked THE NORODOMS and the VANN MOLYVANN rooms. The themed rooms are cozy and so full of character that you will definitely feel like sleeping in art. Surrounded with so much culture and history, it gives you a feeling of being transported to a different era yet there is still a distinct feeling that you are in the modern world.

Loven Ramos, owner and multi media artist, helped us in our 3 day itinerary and lovingly prepared our picnic basket for our Angkor Wat Sunrise day. He also had Rothana drive us around and ensured that we had an experienced, pleasant and guest oriented driver with us.

The staff are friendly and they anticipate your every need. It was very evident that they were trained well in food service and taking care of guests when we had the pleasure to sample the food at the Cafe of Forgotten Dreams.

Words will not be enough to describe the place and experience in staying at this property. If you ever find yourself traveling to Siem Reap to see the majestic temples, then treat yourself as well and stay at 1961. I highly highly recommend it.

as 1961 Facebook page says:

'An art center comprising of a series of galleries, boutiques, food & dining outlets and an 8-room hotel, 1961 is a tribute to the golden age of Cambodia and the birth of modernism around the world.'

Feel At Home on Art Gallery, So Cozy Aug 09, 2011
Everything was in surprise. And the twist is all about but we missed our fetch from the airport to the hotel. ;)

We took a taxi for 7USD from the Siem Reap International Airport to the The River Road, Upper West Side, Central, Siem Reap. The hotel is new and the location is not in the main street of the city so the driver was not even aware yet of our exact destination or the location of the hotel. We arrive in a house facade. A simple gate and with residential neighborhood. Passing through a wet market and non-cemented street yet. But upon reaching the gate entrance, several staffs have come out to the open lawn to greet us. Smiles are wide to keep. Then comes the manager-operator named Lovin. He spell his name to his personality and artistry.

This my first time to experience and see by myself. The art-gallery hotel made for the purpose of display and tourist-guest stay. The collaboration of talent in art in one place to live.

From the receiving lounge to the room and to the restaurant everything you see is ART!

Feel the vibes that before we could leave the place, we learn more on art than wearing them.

This must be a place to visit for those who would like to experience a very unique accommodation while on travel. Feel at home in an art gallery.

Hotel and Hosting Aug 09, 2011
As a tourist to this Kingdom, it is vital to identify what kind of lifestyle one must succumb.

A simple yet very artistic hotel that one will keep their feet on the building at the luxury of many variants work of art made by the hotel owner themselves.

The value is perfect for back packer tourists. Plus the bonus of lecture one will receive from the ever so friendly Loven. He himself will personally arrange the transportation of his guests for visiting the best places in town not missing the Angkor Wat!
