Hosteria Gabeal Jun 23, 2014
Yes everyone in the Mompiche knows this hosteria and will send you there. It is not because village is small, but Gabeal is one of the largest accommodations with the nicest part of the waterfront. Every morning and sunset bunch of guys catch the tidal waves running over the beach.

Hosteria Gabeal is a big compound with few buildings, area for tents, parking, nice dining area and cool sand area perfect for chilling and enjoying the sun. Whole compound is walled in and there are just two entrances, one at the main street and one from the beach area. Reception is right next to dining platform and the bar. Workers speak just a bit of English which is strange because it is very international hostel. Actually if I think about that a bit more, most of the people staying here are from Argentina so English is not that important…

Mompiche is a fishing village a bit overrun with surfers and new coming yoga retreats. Transport to there is very easy during the day, but after 6pm bus system stops and you will be stuck… There are few taxi guys that will rip you with prices 10 times more than normal, plan accordingly…

Hostel is set just right. There are dorms but they were full when I got there. Private room cost me some $20 which is ok for this area, and I was staying in very nice 4-5 story building. Room had very thin walls, but it did not bother me much because active days took all my power away and I slept like baby!

Bed had a mosquito net that was totally useful and must use in this area. Main windows did not have any netting, so if you wanted to enjoy the air at night you had to open it. There is a fan, but it was not strong enough to move air as needed. Bathroom is nice, has hot water but whole room becomes very sandy, almost like beach… Whole hostel is built on sand and all paths are sandy, so it is only normal to walk barefoot (everywhere, whole village aside of main road is sandy) and carry sand everywhere you go. After a day or two you start looking for mop to make some kind of order and keep sand from your bed heheh

They have ok breakfast but it is nicer in the village. You can rent boards but they are almost double more expensive than what you can get around. Bar is really cool and it is a center of hangout. Just in the front of it they have fire every night. Beers are cheap but if you are into lots of drinking, stores are half price and you can bring the beer to your room. There is also a volleyball court that has games happening couple hours before sunset. People working there are not on the “service orientated side” and you will have to chase them to do anything. In general it is a good place to chill and spend some time but if you want to stay in the are for longer term you should look for better places down the beach.
