Hostelling International - Lounge area next to the dining/kitchen room. They have books on Hawaii, binders with hiking information, and books for leisure reading.
Hostelling International - Hostelling International Waikiki is 2 blocks from this!
Hostelling International - Hallway from my room on second floor. It was nighttime when I took this - it doesn't look creepy like this during the day.;-)
Hostelling International - My room and my bed in front of the windows.

Affordable lodging in the heart of Waikiki May 18, 2011
I stayed here for a full week on a recent vacation. It is a 3-story building located two short blocks from the beach in the heart of Waikiki. It has several shared accommodations with bunk beds and single beds, as well as private rooms. They have a communal kitchen/dining area, a garage downstairs, and a hangout area downstairs next to the garage, but fenced off separately. They also have a w/d for $1.00 per service, and 50 cents for laundry detergent.

The hostel also offers discounted adventure activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, skydiving, snorkeling with the sharks (in a cage), and so on. I did the self-guided kayaking and snorkeling with the sharks and had a great time doing both.

Items such as straw mats, boogie boards, flotation rings and snorkel masks can be borrowed from them for the day so long as you bring it back by the end of the day. I was very impressed by this because all these things cost money, and they were loaning them to you for free!

It is a bit noisy here as there are garbage trucks in the morning that are quite loud, as are the patrons, not just in the hostel at times, but the ones staying at the budget hotel next to the hostel. Make sure to take a good pair of ear plugs. I took some and still would wake up, but I tend to be a light sleeper, so if you sleep well, this may not be an issue for you.

There is no AC, but this did not bother me at all. The windows in our room took up half the wall, so when they were all open, we got a nice cross breeze. There is also a ceiling fan and fan you can turn on to circulate the air.

All in all, I’d say it’s a great place to stay if you want to be in the heart of Waikiki and save money at the same time.

Cool hostel on Oahu Apr 11, 2010
I was impressed with the hostel in Waikiki. It was close to the beach, inexpensive and the desk staff were very knowledgeable and friendly!

They had a strict no-alcohol-on-premises policy which was good for keeping visitors from being too rowdy. Rooms seemed pretty standard but I was very happy to have an ensuite bathroom in the 3-bunk and one single bed girls' only room I stayed in.

Hopefully more people choose this hostel to stay at because I understand rent is pretty expensive in Honolulu. Budget travellers need somewhere good to stay too.

The area was good and close to the beach.
Within one block of two main streets in Waikiki. Within a block from bus stops that offer service around the entire Island.
Clean rooms. Bring your own towel. Free beach mats they are a bit tattered.
Communal area sometimes a bit messy.
NO A/C available here. room had a fan to move air around only.
