great hostel near the central park Jul 20, 2008
This is one of the best hostels I've been thus far. It's located three blocks from the central park and Columbia university. It also organizes great walking tours that start just outside the hostel, sporting events and concerts. I spent over one week in that hostel and participated in different walking tours almost every day and I had really great time there.
The hostel has 24 hour reception and the security there is very good thank to the secure luggage storage. Rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable, I was a bit disappointed though that guests needed their own lock in the room. Staff there was very friendly and helpful. They gave us tips what to see in New York and recommended us a very good and reasonably priced hairdresser. I was also glad to notice that there are very many cultural and historical sites nearby as well as good bars and nightclubs. |

Great first time place.... Nov 03, 2009
Went to the HI NYC hostel as a "first time hostel goer" and I did not know what to expect. Everything was well laid out, easy to find and was a fantastic place to meet other people. Pub Crawl with Tim was fantastic! I quick subway takes you just about anywhere in Manhattan. I have been back 2 more times and highly vouch for this place.

great Hostel, very good value. Mar 31, 2009
I would say this is the best hostel I ever stayed in. Maybe they should refurbish the bathrooms but everything else was great. New kitchen with everything you'll need to cook what ever you want to cook. Very good new beds with new matresses and lockers in every room so that your stuff is nearby and kind of "double safe".
Central Park is nearby, the subway is just a minute walk from there and there are some Pubs around to go out for a drink if you don't want to go downtown. |

Affordable accomodation in the 'Big Apple'! Feb 06, 2008
Located on the Upper West Side between Broadway and Central Park, the location is great for exploring Manhattan by foot (or by Subway for the lazier traveller!) and has many nearby food shops, coffee houses and takeaways.
The hostel is massive with a 24 hour reception, two TV areas which includes a games console, a games room with a pool table, a cafe & shop that sells food, drinks, gifts and arranges tours & transport, secure luggage storage, PC’s with ‘pay-as-you-go’ internet access, free wifi access to guests, a large laundry room and the best kitchen area of any hostel that I’ve stayed at (which has recently been redecorated like a traditional US diner). Included in the price for the room is bed linen - including a bath towel - and a locker, although you’ll need to use your own lock. We got a shuttle from JFK to the International Youth Hostel, which was much nicer than the one in LA. It was very surreal seeing all the NYC sights - heaps of yellow cabs everywhere. We hung out with Em too - who aparently lives up the street from me in Melbourne! And we wandered… I arrived in one piece! |

We originially planned to stay at the Chelsea International Youth Hostel, because it was cheap and had a great location. We didn't plan on staying in our room anyways except for sleeping, and we rather wanted to spend our money on shopping and food than a hotel. After we cecked out we headed… New York, New York |
