Hostel at Galle Face Apr 23, 2017
Colombo is one of this weird towns which has the most interesting part of the town occupied by military buildings and guards at every corner. I do understand that they had civil war not that long ago, but too much is too much. Hostel at Galle Face is also surrounded with some kind of military buildings and you will enjoy in the view of uniformed people passing under your room all day long. Galle Face is one of the parks in Colombo that gets very busy for the sunset. They do have lots of street vendors offering variety of food. It looks good but I did not indulge in it.

The bus station and the train station are not that close to the hostel, but if you are into walking couple kilometers in the sun you can make it to your dorm. Tuk Tuks are cheap and you can also catch few city buses that will take you block away from the door.

Hostel is in the modern building right up the flight of the stairs and then left. It is kind of well-marked so you have small chance of missing it. It is hosted in the large apartment and it has only two normal dormitories and one smaller two bunk bed room where staff sleeps, but you can get the bed in there sometimes.

The focal point of the place is a large living room with lots of comfy seating. Reception is at the front table and there is always someone there. Place is nicely furnished and it has more than few guides of the area which you can consult. Part of the room is a kitchen. Kitchen has all the things you need including nice refrigerator heheh End of the living room is open balcony with protective bars, lots of air and nice breeze. Loved this area. Always some people hanging around, good conversation food here and there… There is a shop not far away in the some kind of shopping center and it is a big and good shop with lots options in drinks and food. Drinks especially.

Two dorm rooms are air-conditioned and pretty clean. Fairly specious. Beds are nice, power and light next to your head. Only issue were few older Indian gentlemen that were snoring with the noise of the symphonic orchestra.

There is a strange, strange, strange thing in this hostel. They have lots and lots and lots of small toilet sanitary balls all over the restroom and shower and sinks… Well, it is safe to say that bathrooms smelled very sanitary… Aside of that, bathrooms are clean, there is enough of hot water for everyone and enough of stalls to do your business. Internet is good. Only missing thing were lockers. You could probably leave your valuables with the reception, but lockers are seriously a necessity.

It is a solid place to stay, but I would try some other hostel in town. This one is a bit on the expensive side and there are no really advantages to it. Transportation is pretty easy for you to stay somewhere else and move to your next destination. I am saying it like that because there is no real reason to stay in Colombo for too long.
