Beautiful Location Mar 08, 2011
I had a totally mixed experience of this place, I had heard really good reviews and the view from the hostel is absolutely exquisite and frankly is worth a stay based on that alone. However in regards to the service received it was poor at best, I'm sure Conrad (the owner) is a nice guy but he put in such little effort it made the stay quite hard work.

Any info that me and my travel buddy required in regards to trips and travelling around it took repeated requests for us to be answered and even longer for any trips to be booked. We asked for shuttle info about getting to the airport for our flight (from liberia) and was told that they would get back to us the next day, 2 days later they asked us if we had found out how to get there - in the end we cut our stay at the Vista Serena short and made our own arrangements.

The location here is perfect and you can either walk down to the beach in 30-40 minutes (depending on your level of fitness), the National Park or Quepos or can take one for the regular buses for a mere 240 colones regardless of where you are travelling too.

The best view in Manuel Antonio May 26, 2010
Loved the place and the location, STUNNING VIEW. VERY clean , very friendly staff. AMAZING staff actually. Went alone and met tons of people from all over the world. The best place to stay at in Quepos. They have 4 bed dorms with the AC, private rooms and large dorms which are the cheapest. Coffee in the morning with some bread and jam. Access to internet is also available. I was there closer to the rainy season and it was fairly busy compared to the other hostels in the area. People stay there and love it. The beach is a 20-25 minute walk or you can take the bus which is around 55 cents. Ask Conrad to take you on a tour to the falls, it's beautiful. Can't wait to go back.

Fun hostel with a dorm feel Feb 01, 2010
Very fun and laid back hostel. Everyone, both guests and hosts, are extremely nice. Beautiful view to enjoy while rocking in their hammocks. Like i said before, it has a comfortable and fun dorm feeling.

Love this place! May 28, 2010
Hostel Vista Serena was one of my favorite stops along the way. The staff was fun and entertaining. Unbelievable, panoramic views of the sunset each night! It's a hostel you will definitely end up staying longer than you planned.

Manuel Antonio is a great little town, with paved roads, surfing, nature, and beautiful beaches.

The only downside is if you don't have a car, beaches are too far to walk, and so are most restaurants. Busses are cheap here though, and run often. The staff also takes their van to the beach quite often.........
Amazing view of a sunset, from the…

My favorite! Nov 24, 2008
Vista Serena is hands down my favorite hostel. The atmosphere, price, breathtaking views, and location – just 100 meters down the road from the Super Joseth between MA & Quepos – make Vista Serena a wonderful choice for backpackers of all kinds. The staff – Conrad, his mother Sonia, and brother Alex – are incredibly accommodating and friendly, making you feel immediately at home here. I instantly fell in love with Manuel Antonio and Vista Serena. Little did I know I would eventually spend about 34 nights at VS out of my 90 in CR. I stayed in the 14 bed dorm which was $7 a night in off season ($10 from about Dec-April. Great price!) It is very clean; beds are cleaned every day and you are given a top sheet to use too. (No blankets needed here!) There are also free lockers available in the dorms (bring your own lock.) They have a few other room options too like 4 bedroom dorms and full condo-like apartments. I loved staying in the dorm since I was traveling alone and new people were coming in and out every day, I met so many people! The view from the common area is absolutely amazing; a very beautiful place to watch the sunset. There are also many hammocks, tables/chairs etc where you will always find someone hanging out to talk to. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming with lots of good vibes flowin through. The location is great just down the road from a grocery store and bus line that runs in between Quepos/Manuel Antonio.. can even walk to the beach (about 40 min walk.) VS also has a couple free computers with internet in the lobby which is great, and they can help you set up various tours at the front desk like Mangrove Tours, Ziplining, Horseback Riding, etc. I stayed at Vista Serena for two weeks until I forced myself to leave and see more.. however I returned about a week later since I loved both the hostel and the town.. love the beach, weather, locals, restaurants, culture... I met so many awesome people here and really felt at home here. I even returned to CR 1 year later and spent a week there. Amazing hostel I cannot say enough good things about it !!

Top Notch Quality Nov 08, 2008
My friend and I stayed at the Vista Serena Hostel for three days in Mid-November and had a great time. The location is within walking distance of restaurants, atms, and a grocery store but not the beach. That is really the only drawback to this hostel. However one can catch the bus right down the street to get to the beach. The rooms were large and cleaned daily. The back porch was awesome-the view is incredible, it has hammocks to chill out in, and it is an overall great spot for hanging out. The staff was as good as it can get. The dude running the place, Conrad, is full of all the information you could ever want to know about Costa Rica. The showers had hot water, the kitchen was spacious, and the bathrooms were clean. One last thing is the internet was not free but who cares. I suggest this location for anyone visiting Manuel Antonio National Park.
