Fun Place to Stay Jun 11, 2012
I had a great time at Hostel Suites Obelisco! They have a fun bar which became a great hang out place and great way to meet fellow travelers. Often times I planed on going out to a local bar, but never made it because I was having so much fun at the hostel bar. Also had a quiet and clean private room which wasn't too expensive, although it did get quite hot in the summer with no AC. However the biggest drawback is that the Federal District area of Buenos Aires isnt extremely safe at night. Locals nearby attempted to mug me on my way back to the hostel from dinner, and I heard similar stories from other people staying there as well. So just keep an eye out when you walk down the street, avoid dark alleyways, and try not to carry your passport and a lot of money on you.

Great location in city center with some inconveniences Jun 22, 2011
Hostel Suites Obelisco is located near the Obelisk in downtown Argentina, which makes its location one of the best for exploring the city. The subway station is two blocks away and is served by several lines. The location is within walking distance to Ave Florida's (a pedestrian shopping street).

Although the location is hard to beat, the hostel is in a historic building, although initially charming, results in some inconveniences. First, the rooms and lobby are all on different levels, requiring major stair climbs or waiting for old lifts that are often jammed. The bathrooms are also shared, with each floor having only 2 bathrooms. Since a bathroom can only accomodate one person at a time, there may be long waits.

The main lobby is great with several free internet stations, complimentary breakfast daily, phone booths, and daily activities. The staff can help you book a day tour or activity in the Buenos Aires area.

One tip: this hostel requires you to reconfirm your booking before arrival via email. If you forget to reconfirm, they will bump your reservation, which is what happened to me.

Don't go there in winter!! Feb 18, 2010
We stayed at the Hi hostel suites Obelisco, in september 2009. Needless to say at this time of the year it is cold and humid in Buenos Aires. Well all windows in the hostel would be constantly openned up which made the bathrooms and rooms quite cold. Facing the hostel is a theater and the area is very loud and noisy at night. One night (after a backpacker stole my bed!) i had to sleep in a single upper bed which was pretty high wasn't next to any wall. I'm not used to such a tiny, high bed and bearly slept! However the hostel (sheets, floors, bathrooms) are fairly clean. The parisian style elevator (lifter) never seemed to work, so we had to carry our luggages up 4 floors.
