Siriri Hostel Jun 18, 2014
When I heard that there is new hostel in town that is located in the old Thai embassy I was sold!!! Even better thing was that most of the bus lines pass 1 to 3 blocks away from the building so it is easy to go to the airport or anywhere you wish. It is fairly easy to find this place, but check first for visual points (in directions, they wrote names of huge buildings/banks/hotels in the same block, such as Riu Plaza Hotel and World Trade Center) so that you can get your orientation. There is no big sign on the building so you’ll have to look for the building number or ask around. Area was definitely upscale residential with lots of new high buildings taking over slowly but surely. There are many shops and malls in the area, supermarkets, restaurants, night life, casinos… all in 5 block radius. Walking around is pretty safe at all times and at night you can easily reach night life central of the city that is only few blocks away.

Metal gate is protecting the only entrance to the building and there is usually someone at the reception to open it for you. Owners live in the building on the first floor, young couple that is making their life hood with this idea of upscale hostel. They invested good amount of money to make this place really good looking. There is new pool built in the backyard (and we are talking about nice big pool, not just an excuse for the water holder…) surrounded with good size patio, BBQ area and in general perfect for relaxation, dining and good old partying…

They include breakfast in the price, but that is one of the worst breakfast options that you can have. As far as I got, food is just some bread, spread, and leftovers from the travelers… That was the only complaint that I can have about the place and they could fix it very easy. Kitchen is large, well equipped and you can use it most of the day. There are some limitations and closing times for the kitchen.

Rooms are on the second floor and they are good size and air-conditioned at night. Dorms are not too cramped and they are maintained clean and well aired. There are only two bathrooms that double for showers on the second floor and one on the first floor. Getting into this bathrooms is a bit tricky when there is lots of people in hostel, but there is hot water at all times, and they are cleaned regularly. They are real, large bathrooms not remodeled since the embassy times. A whole wall of lockers makes it easy to protect your valuables. I left my bags in hostels storage area (old garage) and went to Darien for few days. Hostel did not charge me anything and they were super cool and accommodating.

Internet is available through WiFi and they also have computer that you can use if you don’t have your machine. Large living room features full size pool table and large screen TV surrounded with good sofas.

All hostels in the Panama City are overpriced and you are looking for anywhere from 10 to 20$ per night in the dorms and I think that I paid 16$ or something like that. Siriri is the best hostel in town and I warmly recommend it.
