Hostel Road Riders Sep 04, 2016
Oh man, I was so happy that this hostel exists in this small border town… After getting out of the swamps of Pantanal, we were waiting on the road for any bus that had any space, and as usual, the last bus of the day (that usual thing is really getting on my nerves) had just few spots that we happily occupied. Other option was to sleep in the kind of chicken coup on the side of the road…

So we got to Corumba at the end of the day, which is not the great time to look for the place to stay. I checked some sites before arriving and some blogs were talking about new hostel that just opened so that was the target. Luckily enough few cab drivers at the bus station had deal with the hostel owner and as soon as we got out if the bus they approached us and we made the deal. The deal is that ride to the hostel is free and $10 covers night in the air conditioned dorm with the breakfast. Total winner if you are asking me…

So, hostel Road Riders is owned by incredible nice guy that has few mechanic shops around the area (that’s why he has good deals with cab drivers) and the house that hosts the hostel is actually his family house in the city. Family moved to the other house probably because this location was not that great because its surrounding is a bit crumbled old port town, so he took over and made a very good hostel. Everything is brand new, very clean, everything works… It is a bit hard to find the place because there are no signs for hostel and when you get on the door, it is metal door on the high wall so you don’t know if you are at the right place. There is no classical reception (will be built this or next year) but there is someone that takes care of the hostel at all the times. They don’t speak good English, but if you have some knowledge of Spanish you can find the similar words and have fairly good communication.

Most of the dorms and a private room are upstairs. House has high ceilings and nice balcony around the second floor. First floor is not used to its potential, but hostel is still very young and they are making it right. Plans are to make bar and small terrace area outside where people can chill, and to remodel the living room area. Right now, there is just a bit of furniture, mostly old shipping pallets that have some cushions on the top and there is a TV with good amount of channels. Internet is not stable (which is understandable for middle of nowhere town), but you can get to it time to time.

Dorms are good. There is no lockers in the classical sense but there are some wall closets where you can put your stuff. Beds are good, air-conditioning is necessary during the summer, but during the winter months you can go with the fans.

They have good kitchen with everything you need. They will assist you with getting to the border or if you are interested in going to the swamp or surrounding nature areas. Cool place, warmly recommended.
