Hostel Ljubicica Sarajevo Reviews
Very cheap and cramped Nov 22, 2011
Probably the cheapest option in Sarajevo, the Hostel Ljubicica has dorms in multiple dorms in separate locations.
The reception office is located across from the Sebiji Fountain in Old Town, and near the National Library. Hopefully, you will not be there at the time when the owner stepped out. Checking in, you have a choice of leaving 20 euros, the equivalent amount in KM (not sure of exact amount), or your passport, as a deposit. And you get it back when checking out.
After checking in, you may be taken to the location of the dorm that you are staying at. The one that I went to, was across the river, and up a hill, and down a street. And in a quiet area. The dorm was not marked at all, so you will have to remember where it is. Also, there is a market close by, if you need to get some groceries. It is about a 7 minute walk from the reception office.
The dorm room is small and cramped, as if trying to fit as much as possible in such a small place. And not enough room for everyone’s stuff to lay around, and could be a tripping hazard when trying to move around.
The bathroom is very small and cramped as well. Not enough room to move around, and there is a rule that toilet paper has to be thrown in a waste basket. Probably because the drains of the toilet and shower are connected, and toilet paper can clog up the shower. Just guessing, as the shower drain was clogged, and when the plumber came in to fix it, he kept saying “toilet no draining”. In any event, it could mean a horrible smell to the nth degree, assuming everyone follows that rule of throwing it in the basket.
There is a kitchen shared by all the rooms in this location. And it has a stove, but no microwave and no fridge either. And the stove was not even working. Plus there is no internet at all.
The woman on staff is very nice, and even gave me a ride to the location. Though she was a little crazy, driving in reverse in heavy traffic, basically expecting everyone to get out of the way.
While not the worst place that I stayed at, the only reason to stay here is the cheap prices. Not sure if I could recommend this place to others. And it just shows that one should not just pick places on price alone.
