Decent Place to Stay For One Night Jun 05, 2012
With such limited options in the area, we chose to book our accommodation in Southern Iceland at Hostel Hvoll, part of the Hostelling International chain. If you are staying here, the hostel is in a remote location and you must pay close attention or else you could easily pass the gravel road that leads off of Route 1. The reception area was in separate house on the hill while the rooms were in 2 separate structures down the hill. We chose to book a single room with 3 beds instead of sharing a dorm room. Our room was quite small but was cozy enough for one night. Our room included a sink but the toilet and shower were down the hall. Bring your own sheets and towels otherwise you would have to rent one from the reception desk. The communal kitchen and dining area were huge and very well equipped and most of the guests were cooking their own meals. You must plan ahead as the nearest store is a good 25 kilometers away. Most hostels have the reputation of being loud with rowdy partiers. However, this hostel had none of that. At around 11pm, everyone in the hostel was in their rooms. Most of the guests here were probably drained of energy after the long drive to get here or from experiencing the great outdoor activities that can be done in the surrounding area. Not surprisingly, there were no televisions, wi-fi, or internet connection.
