Closest hostel to the Strip May 02, 2017
Being the closest hostel to the Strip, the Cat Hostel is located in the downtown area. The easiest to reach by public transportation, including buses that can take you directly to and from the Strip. Also, one of the buses from the airport, take you very close to the hostel, from the back side. You will have to walk around the block, to reach the entrance of the hostel.

The hostel consists of a series of buildings. One of them has the reception desk, lounge and kitchen in it. And another has a bunch of smaller buildings, which are the rooms. Each room door is decorated to a country’s flag. And the dorm buildings has some art of cartoon characters on them. Kind of nice to look at.

When checking in, you will be given a key (yes, an old fashion key), and required to give a $10 deposit. Plus a code to enter both the reception building, and the dorm area. The staff are very nice, and helpful.

The rooms are very basic, with only bunk beds and lockers in them. And each room has its own bathroom, which can be a good or bad thing, depending on how many people are in the room. The rooms can be nice, depending on which one you are placed in, as not all the rooms are equal in terms of space. Same goes for the bathroom. The beds are somewhat comfortable. And the bathroom is nice.

With the lounge and kitchen being separate from the dorms, and requiring you to go outside to go between them, this can be a bit of an issue. You will have to use the code each time when going into these places, which can be a bit of a pain, especially if you are there during the summer months. Not really much to write home about. Also, I found the WiFi to be spotty at times.

Still, even if the rooms are basic, they are still good enough to stay in. They are not great, but they are far from terrible. If it is about needing a place to spend the night at a cheap price, then this place is definitely it. And being conveniently located along the bus line that takes you directly to the Strip, is much added positive, as I would later find out in my trip. This is key for those who don’t have a car.

It may not stand out in terms of amenities, but if just needing a place to sleep, then this place is definitely worth it. Besides, this is Las Vegas, and you should be out there, checking out the city, and not spending that time in the hostel.

And make sure you return the room key.
