Hostel Alessandro Palace & BAR Dec 30, 2009
The hostel is located in the central station area, so you will have to use metro or buses to get around Rome but not really other choice for a cheap accommodation.
I did not find the atmosphere good at all, despite it has a bar, it was almost empty.
The 6 bed dorm was large enough with window and an ensuite bathroom and lockers. I was not sure the bed shits were cleaned.
There is not lift in that hostel, so if you have a room on the top floor, be prepared to carry on your luggage up the long stairs ;))
I had a room on the first floor, so stairs were not an issue, but the noise from bar can be annoying.
24 hours reception
If I go again to Rome, I will look for another hostel.

great location, great hostel Jul 03, 2008
Really enjoyed this hostel - in a great location 5 min walk from Termini station. The five of us were in a huge room for an 8-bed dorm, plenty of room to sprawl and drink wine - if you so desired :)
Facilities were great - except maybe dodgy lift! - free pasta every week night if you sign up, no curfew, good internet, lockers, luggage area etc. Plus the receptionists were full of info.
Only bad thing is the room got pretty hot - fan didn't seem to do a thing but that's to be expected I guess.
