Hostal de Peregrino Dec 06, 2009
Hostal del Peregrino is an interesting property. The owners advertise it as both a "Hostal" and "Hotel". The owners and staff are very proud of the facility and are obviously very serious about the tourist business. This is a quality place a business. As a hostel the bed prices are very expensive at about $19.00 for a dorm bed and about $23.00 for a private double bed. The single private rooms are about $43.00. All the private rooms are on the first floor with the dorm rooms on the second floor. The private rooms are equipped with a private bathroom, cable television and ceiling fans. Some rooms have air conditioning (additional fee). The dorm rooms have individual secure closets, are large with big windows. They are on the second floor with communal bathrooms and close access to the terrace bar and patio. I have stayed here 4 times and have sampled all three type of room accommodations. All the rooms are well maintained and very clean. The Hostal del Peregrino is in a restored colonial house renovated into a very attractive and comfortable hostel.

The Hostal del Peregrino is located in the historical center of Merida in a quiet neighborhood. It is located to permit walking to most the attractions in Merida. The staff is very helpful and will arrange for taxi service if you wish. Parking of your vehicle is not a problem in the area of The Hostal del Peregrino. I have parked my truck on the street on each of my visits with no problem finding a space or experiencing a crime. The Hostal del Peregrino can arrange for off-street parking.

The Hostal del Peregrino facility includes free breakfast, linens, towels, lockers, luggage storage, telephone/fax service, 24/7 reception, car and bike parking, bike rental, experienced travel desk services, laundry (additional fee), airport shuttle, bar, kitchen, BBQ area and common areas.

One word of warning, the Hostal del Peregrino has a way of locking the doors so that a guest cannot exit. Great for security, bad for safety and anyone wanting to get an early start. During all my stays at The Hostal del Peregrino the management never corrected this fault even when I asked to have the door open for an early start. I always had to go find someone to open the door. On 2 occasion I had to wait until a staff member arrived for work.

mike, that would make me uncomfortable knowing I was locked in... hopefully the windows weren't barred for an escape in case of fire.... nice review. sylvia
