My friend and I booked this hostel from Australia a few months before heading out there.
When we arrived we were instructed by couple who worked at the hostel to leave our luggage in the building foyer whilst taking our valuables with us next door to check in.
We decided against this, thinking that maybe we'll come back and all our stuff will all be gone. So I went with the man to check in while my friend waited in the foyer with our backpacks.
REAL DUMB IDEA!!! the man took me across the road onto the next street into a building (defineately not next door) where we got into a lift and went to the top floor marked Presidential Suite. Here the so called owner (really easily identifiable man - old with really white hair and a long white beard) invited me in although I told him that my friend was waiting for me at the other place. He insisted I come in with my passport directing me into what seemed to be his house and I bolted down the stairs to grab my friend and leave.
When I got back to my friend we phoned him to suggest an alternative method of checking in and he was really rude even though I tried to explain to him that we're just two teenaged girls travelling alone and that we didn't feel comfortable going into his Presidential Suite. He continued being outright rude, shouting through the phone and even swore a few times.
Totally innappropriate service. Pretty bad experience at this hostel. Definately wouldn't recommend anyone staying here.

However if you decide to stay there anyway and find yourself in trouble, just head to the cafe next door and they're more than willing to help you out. They even told me that the Presidential Suite owners always in there trying to hit on the female staff! So seedy!

Los Amigos is a much better choice of hostels in Madrid. It's a little more expensive, but well worth it as they're really safe, have great facilities, organise tours and activities and even give you free wine some nights.

I found this hostel trough Hostelworld.com, and i have to say that booking this hostel is like gambling. We were lucky and resulted to be a good experience but as I could read in the comments, many others weren't...

It seems that these people are running at least 3 different hostels (Jamyc, Castro and Sudamericano), and once you get there they send you to one of them. We reserved 2 rooms and gave us a 6-beds room, but in the nice hostel in the pictures, hostal Jamyc.

PERFECT location, views to paseo del prado, clean, small bathroom in the room and very cheap...
