Hostal Espana Puerto Ayora Reviews

Local hostal with a nice courtyard Jun 23, 2016
We arrive in Puerto Ayora and start looking for the Hostal Espana. We manage to get the bus driver to drop us off pretty close to the hostal we should be on the street of the hostal. According to the booking page the hostal should be on a corner of the street we are on and another street leading down to the water in Puerto Ayora. So we walk down to the street corner expecting to find the Hostal Espana. There is no sign of the place at the street corner – hence we have to do some extra searching to find the place. It turns out it isn’t actually located at the street corner like the booking page had suggested – instead it is located a little down the street from the street corner. The place actually has a pretty big sign marking it – but when we were rushing to the street corner we didn’t see the pretty big sign and had walked right past the hostal. To be fair the location of the hostal is a bit strange since it isn’t facing the street you have to walk down a bit of a walk path to get into the down stair area of the hotel with the reception.

The place is called hostal – but just to clarify – hostal doesn’t translate into hostel. It is more like a guesthouse with individual room which all has private ensuite shower and toilet at this hostal.

We have a room on the second floor up the stair – there is no elevator at this place so you will have to carry your own bags up the stairs. The room is fairly big with what you would expect from a hotel room. There is a television on the wall – the location of the television is a bit different in the different rooms and in some rooms it is located a bit dangerously if you are above five feet. Fortunately this isn’t the case in the room I am staying in so my head survive uninjured during my stay. There is also a air-condition in the room and there is a decent size shower and toilet.

Downstairs is a big open area with kind of a garden where they have put up several hammocks for the guest to use during their stay. Hence if you are in the need of a quick afternoon nap you do not need to go all the way up to the room just stay down and take advantage of the hammocks. There is also a kitchen dining area where you can buy breakfast. But it isn’t included in the price. The price of breakfast is 5 dollars so you can buy something yourself for breakfast or just go somewhere else in town if you like since there are many places serving breakfast for a similar price.

The location of the hostal is pretty good. It is only a short walk down to the main street down at the water and the main street dining area is only a block behind the hostal. So anything you will need as a tourist is within easy walking distance.
