The Hidden Gem of Andorra Aug 09, 2009
Hostal Cisco de Sans is in the old town of Andorra la Vella and is the oldest hotel in Andorra. It enjoys a superb location just behind the Casa del la Vall (the parlament). It is an island of tranquility away from the bustle of traffic and noise of the capital. From here you can stroll through the historical centre or visit the city's museums. This is also the ideal place from which to explore the magnificent, mountainous landscapes surrounding Andorra La Vella.
The Hostal Cisco de Sans is housed in a traditional, old town property, dating back to 1760. The structure of the hostel has not undergone major changes and has a traditional-style, rustic decor, and has conserved the stone walls and wooden flooring of the original property. It definitely has charm and soul. In 1880 it became one of the first hostels in the country. People as diverse as the former Andorrean counsellors and parliamentarians, as well as the first French and English writers who wrote about the valleys (Murray, Deverell, Scott, O‛Connor), have passed through this old hostel. Later, during the difficult times of the Spanish wars and the Second World War, this hostel was a neutral and peaceful hideaway for people on all sides. The hostel has 9 rooms including 3 small suites, 3 doubles and 3 triples, each with a bathroom, television and safe. You will also find a small lounge with TV, fireplace and a small dining room. Internet is also available for fee. The small restaurant serves breakfast daily between 09:00 and 10:30, a daily lunch between 13:00 and 15:00, and dinner on Friday to Sunday, 19:00 to 22:00. It offers a tasty selection of traditional, home-made dishes from Andorra. The best thing about Hostal Cisco de Sans is the people running it. They are very warm, welcoming and helpful. I can highly recommend this place.

We *should* have eaten up in Soldeau - because EVERYTHING is closed down in Escaldes & Andorra la Vella. Apparently 6PM is when restaurants close on NYE, unless it's open for some party for the evening, but in that case, tickets or invitat…… grrr, nothing's open? |
