Hostal Casa Muñoz Trinidad Reviews
Hostal Casa Muñoz Dec 05, 2007
This Casa Particular comes highly recommended in several guidebooks, as well as on the internet. It was even mentioned in National Geographic in an article about Trinidad! I’m a bit hesitant in posting this review since they were in the middle of a renovation when we stayed there but it was a bit of a disappointment.
First the positive points: it is located in a nice colonial-style (built in 1800) building just outside of the town center of Trinidad, easy walking distance to the Plaza. There are two guestrooms, as is usual in Casas, and the rooms are huge, with aircon and fan. Each room has its own bath (outside of the rooms, facing the courtyard). There is a roof terrace with a great view over the rooftops, makes for great photos, esp. at sunset! For 5 CUC they’ll make you a filling breakfast, with bread, omelette, fruit and coffee.
They have an excellent website with a ton of information about the Casa itself, directions (a handy map!) and about Trinidad. Contacting them via their website and reserving a room went smooth and quick. We could park our car at a neighbour’s house who, for a small fee, watched it for us so that was a reassuring feeling (because of parts shortages, the pilfering of mirrors, hubcaps etc. of rental cars is not rare in Cuba). All in all, the Casa felt very safe.
Now for the negative: we’d seen a lot of pictures of the (inside of the) Casa and there was quite a difference between the pictures and reality, probably because of the renovations going on. The owners were courteous and did their best, but with the work being done, we felt that having guests at that moment was a bit of an imposition for them (although in all honesty, they never showed this to be the case). Since we’d been in regular contact with them before, it would have been fair if they’d at least let us know of the work before we arrived (I noticed that it is mentioned on their website by now).
